Hi all, does anyone know what this button does? The red light on mine has decided to come on and no amount of button pushing can switch it off. Does this indicate a bigger issue?

Cheers.

EC means Economy or No Air con operation.
If the light won't go off you probably have a refrigerant leak.

Cheers for that....is there any easy way to confirm this or is it just a case of tracing and checking the pipework?

You need to get it vacuum and pressure tested. The most common failure is the condensor.

Quick check is find the test/charge points, remove the cap and have a quick poke with a screwdriver little noise/gas may get away with regas, no noise/gas severe leak as DM says.

Its just like a tyre valve set up.

Mine was the condensor, not to hard to change cost approx £80

You may find that the light remains on even if the system is repaired and regassed. A reset on a Star machine is often necessary to get the fault code cleared. Some so-called air-con specialists are often stumped by this one. I must have reset half a dozen last summer for a nearby specialist who was capable of fixing the fault but not resetting. At least he had the sense to ask...
