I've been having trouble this week with my A-Class (see this thread http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=30251 ) and finally took it today to my local indy for a look. He did his diagnostic bit and apparently there's an ECM problem and in his words "It's a Merc job." I gather it'll be an expensive job from the dealer, is it do-able at home? Any insights would be gratefully received!

P.S. I'm assuming it needs replaced, I didn't get a copy of any fault codes coz I'm a girl and, by my own admission, a bit rubbish at this.

These things plug in. there maybe faults codes recorded, but should be OK when the new on is plugged in, if there are any fault codes after this they can be removed later when the car is being serviced. Just for the record gearbox fault codes are cleared with a key start.

Malcolm

I have just done some checks and it is a dealer or indie job, it has to be coded, an indie with a Star machine can do it

Thanks guys, so I need to find a good local indie, eh? I may pay a visit to me local stealer and get a proper diagnosis done, too. And hello BBA-REMAN!! That's quite a difference!

*edit* Grober, I'm in your neck of the woods. Any decent indies near you?

Just find a good local indie. They'll have a fault reader.

Oh and if things must be replaced, make sure you keep the originals. Circuits can be repaired.

Sorry not that I know of. Wish I did! Theres a couple of garages in Glasgow that have been mentioned, but I dont have any personal experience of either. Specialist details are available on the Mercedes specialists across the UK section of the forum.
