2013 E250
2012 E250 Estate, Eco stop/start, so the button on the dash is on(green light) but in the instrument cluster i still have the ECO in yellow, is there a quick way of telling which of the criteria isn't being met

think the E on the display might refer the 3 WAY gearbox settings switch on the centre console which dictates how the box changes.

otherwise

Stop start is not enabled if the engine is not warmed up enough even if selected - maybe that??
It will tell you somewhere in the owners manual - if you can find it!

I don't think that you can test this without STAR, but the possible candidates are either a weak battery, or perhaps an issue with the Stop/Start ECU - so it both batteries are fine, than a firmware update would be my first step.

I can test the main battery with a meter, both with the engine running and off... , but not sure i can test the aux one, have to find it first lol

On my car it's in the boot, next to the spare wheel, under black plastic cowling. But it seems to be 'hidden' in different places on different cars....

Could be any one of these;

The ECO start/stop function is operational
and the ECO symbol is displayed in green in
the multifunction display, if:
- indicator lamp in the ECO button is lit green.
- outside temperature is within the comfort range.
- engine is at normal operating temperature.
- set temperature for the vehicle interior has been reached.
- battery is sufficientlycharged.
- system detects that the windshield is not fogged up when the air-conditioning system is switched on.
- hood is closed.
- driver's door is closed and the driver's seat belt is fastened.
If conditions for automatic engine switch-off have not been fulfilled, the ECO symbol will be shown in yellow.

simple answer is 'no'. Car has mind of its own. In addition to above start/stop is yellow when car thinks you are manoeuvring.

Could this be the aux battery, the car is a 2012 estate with 7 seats

For the first year of its life, I could drive our W246 10 or 20 miles before the green light came on (they all do that, sir said the dealer). Then last winter, because the car was only being used once or twice a week, I hooked up my Ctek battery charger and left it on maintenance charge whenever the car wasn't being used. The result was that the green light started to come on usually within a mile of starting from cold and sometimes as soon as the end of the street. This continues to be the case today, despite not using the charger for 6 months.

Did a 60 mile run on Sunday, still yellow

I purchased my late 2014 C250 BlueTec estate (S205) @18 months old in June 2016. I do predominately local trips but always try and give it a bit of a run every couple of weeks.

The stop/start seemed to become more and more unavailable as we headed into winter (for all the obvious reasons). I did wonder if there was a problem as we got to spring and it still hadn't come back to life, even after an 80-odd mile run via the M2/M25/A13 from Kent to Essex. It did, however, reappear on the way back and once summer (if you could call it that) was upon us, it was back to its old self.

It has already become less frequent, now that the tins of Quality Street (other makes are available) have started to appear in our supermarkets!:D

I would like to not see it on my car lol
Or being able to permanently switch it off. I just don't like it, and still think it may cause more harm than it is worthy. I switch it off every time I start engine.

Surely it reduces dangerous nox emissions when in stop start traffic in residential/pedestrian areas?

Mine is the opposite... on my 2013 C180, the ECO symbol on the instrument cluster is green most of the he time, and the engine almost always switches off when the car is stopped... possibly the newer Stop/Start units (compared to 2011 and 2012 cars) are more efficient?

At any rate, I generally turn it off, because it can be very annoying - e.g. whenever I stop in order to reverse park the car, the engine switches itself off, then back on as soon as reverese gear is engaged. Etc...

I manually turn it back on when in a traffic jam or when waiting at lights that I know are long etc.

My understanding is that on newer cars the Stop/Start functionality is automatically deactivated when the transmission is in Sports mode? I.e. Stop/Start is only active when the transmission is in E (which is the default when starting the car) but not when in S (or M for paddle-shift equipped cars)?

Guess its the geek in me, if something doesn't work... i wanna know why, still have a run up to Scotland next month, lets see if it gets sorted, otherwise its a trip to PCS :)

Mine is 2011 and works fine. On a few occasions when it hasn't a restart usually fixes it.

Maybe its time to visit a dealer or specialist?
