Hi, the eco stop/start doesn't seem to be working, is this anything to worry about. Or is there a "fix" for this ? Car is W205 C class C220 Diesel Blutec.

Your battery might be getting towards the end of its life.

While your problem may be a tired battery, the reality is that there could be a myriad of reasons why your stop/start isn’t working.

Another truism is that unless there’s a definitive stored fault code, you may struggle to get it fixed. The start point as always though is to get the car on Star Diagnostics to see if there is a fault stored.

Doesn't your manual tell you? We won't rat on you if you open the manual but do it after dark to be safe.

My start stop "stopped" working - charged the battery one Saturday - it worked afterwards for a few weeks. In my case I think the batter(ies) are probably not at their best. New batteries on the xmas list :)

The stop start function not working must be a bonus, right ? It's pretty pointless and may have already cost you the price of a replacement battery.

When I'm walking the granddaughter to school in Marple, the traffic is a nose to tail crawl. I often see cars barely come to a halt before setting of again 1 or 2 secs later and still the stop/start kicks in. Seems crazy that it doesn't wait longer to be sure the car has really stopped at traffic lights or similar. At that rate the stop/start must kick in dozens of times per mile in traffic. No wonder It can be hard on the battery.

If I had stop/start I'd want a little knob that allowed me to adjust the interval before it stopped. A bit like variable intermittent windscreen wipers.

The amount of pressure you put on the brake pedal when you have come to a complete stop determines whether it cuts in or not. Anyone half competent in controlling a car can sit stationary with stop / start on (and green) and not have the engine cut unless they want to.

Yes, I’ve found that this can be done on the level with a bit of practice. This gives a goid extra level of control.
Easier in a manual where you just keep the clutch in when you don’t want the stop/start activating.

As others said, the most common cause for the Stop/Start function not working is an issue with either the main battery or the auxiliary battery (on my W204 the auxiliary battery is in the spare wheel well in the boot, but the location can differ from one model to another).

In most cases where either battery is at fault there are no fault codes showing on STAR, and the only way to diagnose the issue is by process of elimination, i.e. replacing either or both batteries.

Said that, as others pointed-out, there are very many other components that can fail and cause the Stop/Start to malfunction. This includes components in the battery circuit or charging system that are external to the battery itself. So a STAR scan is always recommended before proceeding with battery replacement.

Hi. I think you will find that the W205 does not have an aux batt but uses a capacitor which is an electrical storage device. It is located in the passenger footwell area. Mercedes call it a Voltage Converter.
Remove N/S/F kick panel trim then remove the glove box under dash panel. Next remove the N/S/F section of carpet then remove the plastic panel on the floor against the bulkhead, the capacitor is bolted LHS of electrics panel.

Just had a look on EPC at a few W205 models. Under Electrical /Battery it shows only 1 batt called starter battery in engine compartment. Whereas if I look up my car a S204 it shows 2 batt's, main battery in engine compartment & aux batt 12V/12AH in luggage area.
