 I am unable to turn the ignition key on my CLK200 (and the door locks will not function). I have fitted a new battery but still no joy. I have tried the second key too.
I have been advised it may well be that the EIS unit has failed.
Is there any further research I can do to check this out ?
If it is this unit, is there any chance I could replace it myself ?

Hi,
There chances of both your keys failling at the same time IMO is extremely remote (provided your spare key was working anyway).
The EIS switch will have to be fitted by MB as they need to be coded to your specific chassis via STAR.
I enquired about mine just before christmas the switch itself is approx. £354 and they said about half hour to fit and code it.

You need to get the car onto a STAR machine ( not a generic code reader ) and get the fault codes read before you do anything.

EIS systems i beleive have to be ordered and coded from the factory , so i guess it would probably have to be fitted by a STAR equipped dealer / independant.

Andy beat me to it ! Must type faster !
