C220 CDi (S203) auto 175k
Car died today after a 100 mile run yesterday and 200 mile run today with no problems, then decided to pop to shops and it died on a roundabout, showing the fault in the title.
Car would not restart, even after an hour (once it was recovered)
I have 1/3rd tank of fuel, so it's not a lack of fuel, unless the guage has suddenly decided to give incorrect readings?

I have done a search and noted some of the possibilities, but will have to wait for the garage to look at it on tuesday (if they can fit it in)

it had new injector seals and replacement fuel pipes in the engine bay about 6 weeks ago, could this be related?

It could be the pipes if it's sucking air, but could also be the pressure control valve leaking back.

The car is in Stevenage at the moment, locked in the recovery company's compound as the garage I use is closed until tuesday

everywhere?is he homeless :)?

From the little research I have done on this fault, it could turn out to be a quick, simple and cheap fix, or very expensive.

If it's cheap, then all well and good, but if its very expensive, then I guess I'll probably break it for spares (or sell for spares) and buy another car, rather than be involved in a money pit.

Update

Had a call from the Indie today, they said the fault codes showed lack of fuel at the injectors, they did a bleed off test and fully pressurised the system.

The car started for them, and ran perfectly, no problems at all.:wallbash:

They asked me if I had run out of fuel, I said no.

I have asked them to let one of their mechs take it home and run it about for the rest of the week to see if the fault re-occurs.

Anyone else had this issue, and what was the fix?

Im thinking change fuel filter as a precaution?

My W203 C240 cut out on the motorway a while back. That was a blocked fuel filter. It was full of thick black goo. Car had just had a fill up at ASDA.

Filter replaced car was fine.

I had something very similar to you warning which cut the engine out during kick down, ran perfectly otherwise though it turned out to be the throttle transducer.

Coincidentally, my last fill up was at ASDA, don't normally use them, but they had fuel after the recent panic buy and I had done some shopping there.......

Got car back from the Indie, they said that when it arrived on the tow truck they initially tried to start it, which it did, and then ran for about 30 seconds, then died.
They then carried out a bleed off test and pressure test, turned the key key and it started and ran ok.

I saked them to let their technician have the car to drive about for a few days until I collected it on Saturday, he said id drove perfectly, and never missed a beat.

I asked them to change the fuel filter as a precaution, which they did.
Hopefully that will be the end of it, time will tell.

I stumbled across this Indie by chance, they seem capable and honest, and their charges are sensible.
They specialise in BMW and Mercedes, and are in Hertfordshire, for those of you who may need thier services.
