Hello all. I've recently acquired a,beautiful '89 SL420SL -my return to the marque after years of intervening BMW's and the like.
Coincidentally the price I paid was pretty much the same as the '86 SL300 I bought in 1989.
So far the only problem is resisting the urge to pile the miles on whilst my current Range Rover and 5-Series Touring sit unused, albeit depreciating rapidly.
Question is: should the Beemer be replaced with a slightly more practical R129 for less than sunny R107 days?
I don't expect prices will reach the same levels but it does appear that £10k or so would buy a decent example with some chance of retaining its value.
Or is owning two SL's at nearly eighty plain greedy? Or a sign of not so early onset?
Good to hear what others think.

Hello and welcome. Your SL sounds great.

Hope you enjoy the car and forum.

Hello and welcome:thumb:

Welcome aboard.

Depends on the age of the BMW I guess... is a 5 series estate really not practical?

Apologies for being unclear. I meant the 129 is more practical than the 107

Oh I see - moving the 5 on is a done deal but what to replace with.

I prefer the R107 personally (big fan of Beverley Hills Cop 1!).

R129 has never really done anything for me but you will find a wealth of opinion on here...

I have a R129 that is only used for sunny days :D

Not sure it's significantly more practical than a 107 though?

Price-wise I suspect they have pretty much bottomed out now, so I would expect a good example (good condition, low miles, few previous owners, FSH etc.) to retain its value.
