Electric? So presume we're talking EQC for example - unlikely.

Although it's marketed as 4matic, it's predominately front wheel drive with the rear motor providing some extra grunt when needed. Wouldn't put it in the same category as a Shogun, LR etc.

Hi , I am sure I saw EQC in Ledbury this week and it looks a lovely car.

Hi , well what a great looking car but I would prefer an Austin Champ with its fabulous Roles Royce 4 litre engine.

Anyone care to guess what links this vehicle to a modern MB?

For those who don't know what a portal axle is

I suspect also you could comfortably add £30k to the price of a standard EQC but this might simply be a prototype/testbed for an EV version of a new G-WAGEN [e]

Going back many years, I used to love the BBC tv coverage of the London MC vs the Army off-road competition. Raymond Baxter commentating iirc. The little Haflinger always did really well!

Its not without cause that Vehicle Off Road demos take place in primarily rocky locations. Any true off roader will tell you that its not the rocks that will stop you its the mud!- hence my remarks about vehice ground clearance, weight and tyre cross section. In otherwords the ability to "float" across soft surfaces. Once a vehicle sinks low enough for the weight of the vehicle to borne by/ transferred to the under-body/chassis the game is generally up :( no matter how sophisticated the 4WD system difflocks etc------ at that point your best equipment is a winch or high lift jack or best another 4x4 with a winch on firm ground! I have learned this basic lesson over the years on the hillsides / peat bogs of Scotland. ;)

OK, there are quite a few M27x that are shared between the American 'M for Military' and the German 'M for Motor':

M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System

M271 Rapier Advanced Air Defense Vehicle

M272 Rocket Launcher

Etc.

But only the M274 fitted with the topic of this thread......
