More probelms with ym CLK 2001 320 Vert I'm afraid. when I took the car for a test drive, the forn windows went up when I clicked the button once but when they got to the top, the would go down about 2 inches - this was also the case if you held the button down to wind the window up.
When I went to pick the car up - the lying B*tch from the MB main dealership told me that the problem had been fixed with the replacement of the regulators and they worked. Now one month of ownership the same problem has happened - the windows sound very creaky and always go down 2 inches after they go up - its infuriating. The car is booked in (AGAIN) on Saturday but I'd like to be able to tell the service mamanger what needs doing.

This coupled with the lumpy idling and lack of creep in Drive, the rolling backwards on hills, the throaty exhaust (not a good throaty) and most worryingly the lack of ANY OIL whatsoever registering on the dipstick 4 days after picking it up after its "Pre delivery inspection" (Its official MB Approved used) I'm about ready to explode.....

Rolling backwards on hills is to be expected unless you're in W mode. Lumpy idling and lack of creep or "jumpy" creep might point to a MAS fault.

Good luck with your stealership!

Mass Airflow Sensor. Once considered a lifetime item but it is almost considered a consumable these days.

Symptoms of a failing MAS are lumpy idle, jumpy acceleration, power loss, poor fuel economy, misfiring and strange or unexpected automatic gearbox shifting.

A MAS is usually about ~£300 from the stealership or ~£100 from an aftermarket source.

If you search the forum you will find a lot of detailed info about this component :)

check out ebay as well for a mas they are going for around £40-£60. the exhaust problem could be the same of what i had. the exhaust sounded like how you described but the longer i left it the worse it got. it sounded like the baffles had gone. anyway there is like a stainless steel heat shield at the front of the exhaust just at the bend into the engine comp. the mountings rust on this and makes the heatshield rattle like mad. you have a choice because it does not really do anything so you can either rip it off or do what i did and weld it back on. my local garage did this for a tenner for me. when the car is cold just have a look under and give it a shake. its a very common problem apparently and when i described it the bloke at spr knew exactly what it was. good luck and let us know.

thnaks for the advice - will tell the $tealer tomorrow - anyone got any ideas about the creaking window that refused to close properly unless you puit it up in tiny increments????

Try putting both windows down at the same time and once they are all the way down, hold the buttons in the down position for 30 seconds or so, this reprogrammes the electric windows.....I was shown this by a MB Dealer when my E220CDi windows went up the creak.

I have also recently taken a E240 back off a customer as the car had come to the end of its 3 year lease and the windows were all over the place...they would only go down an inch at a time, so once I got the front windows down I did as mentioned above and they are now back to normal
