Mercedes c220 cdi amg sport plus
well my wife got into her car today (c220) and started the car up to put the windows down as it was hot inside and then they wouldn’t go back up even though car was still running she then turned the car off to see if it made any difference but then turned the key back on and nothing just the dash lights come on but car wouldn’t start even after a few attempts,so I come home check the fuse box and push all the fuses down and then car starts up as it should ,she then goes to her mums and dash flickers a couple of time turning it’s self on and off then parks at her mums locks the car and goes in for a while ,then she comes out and car won’t unlock with the fob so open it manually and set alarm off in doing so try the key and nothing again ,at this point different fault signs come up on dash I shut the door with me in the car and press lock on the fob and the car locks itself and I put fob back in and car starts up as normal and drives home faultless, park car on drive ,my friend comes round with a fault finding thing you plug into car and doesn’t come up with any faults even though the engine management light is on ,the car drives faultlessly and no damp in fuse box and battery is fine ,friend said I might need a more detailed diognistic check done ,anyone got any ideas on what this could be as I’m already getting fed up of the Mercedes experience help please

You don’t say what year the car is.

You could remove the front SAM and check (remove) all connections for damp/corrosion.

Examples… mercedes w220 front sam - Google Search:

Its just one possibility, some have checked for damage / corrosion, others have replace with a used one of e bay with some success. You could be throwing your money away, others may have alternative suggestions.

You seem to have a few different faults which would suggest the SAM.

Are the car battery connections all tight?

Disconnect battery if you do any work on the SAM and ensure you can open doors/boot with metal key blade as you won't have any power for the central locking key fob while battery is disconnected.

Thanks dec ,il have some one look at it and il check battery’s connection too ,it’s such a shame as wife loves the car and it runs like a dream when it’s goin ,cheers dean

What year is the car? I think your mate might be right, connecting the car to STAR, Mercedes's own diagnostic tool would be a good next move. Dealers and independent specialists have STAR.
