I'm pretty sure the module needs coding in by Star.

A Star session is the way forward to diagnose the fault. You have tried parts darts to no avail, save your cash and get a Star session sorted.

I needed a new door module earlier this year, I usually do all of my own work to my cars.
Quick phone call confirmed it needed coding in. That was on a brand new module.
I ended up letting them do the full job to make life easier.
As already said, parts darts, can be an expensive game!

Thanks for your reply, to be honest I am being told YES and NO when I mention Star.....I installed a new Module as would not trust used part and thought it would work straight off.....but nothing..... trying to avoid Main Dealer as costly.....

Most German Specialists will have Star.
That'll more than half the labour costs.
My MB charges £220 an hour.
My Specialist charges £85.

Not sure , but if you unplug the electrical connections to the cam magnets on top front of the engine are they leaking oil ?
Maybe the oil has got into the front main engine electrical connection and corrupted everything .

Consider searching for an 'auto electrician' and run it by them and see what they say - it may just be more cost effective and they may already have the answer.

Unplug the electrical plugs on either magnet and look inside them .Did as you suggested, there was oil in the connectors but not a lot.... and it did not appear to go down the wires

Eeek !
Might be worth checking the main electrical plug (ECU) to the right of the air filter box to see if it’s in there as well .

Hi
I have 2013 C class sport estate. The ignition key has frequently stopped disengaging the steering lock and the dashboard lights are dead and it will not start.
A previous suggestion has been to turn the steering wheel hard both ways to free the steering lock and ensure the car is always parked with the front wheels straight. The straight wheels advice seems to have worked but not now. Maybe because the front wheels are on full lock.?

I have tried using the spare (unused) key but it has not worked. After trying for several minutes a message appeared on the screen “TRYING TO INITIALISE THE KEY PLEASE WAIT” 30 minutes later it disappeared and the car still does not work.

Is this a corrupted coding, or ,something more sinister? Grateful for any advise.

Update to my thread.....had diagnostics done and the DCM I fitted was not communicating with system, I changed it again and BOSH.... working just fine, did not need coding....grateful for advice and comment

Had thus problem recently...RAC came out and fixed in 2 minutes
Key in ....keep turning key on and off....keep moving steering wheel left and right quickly and I'd started.....he said common fault....

Sounds to me that garages tell people different storys to get their money.
My specialist was adamant my part needed coding.
Same part as yours?
Installation was a very simple process.
I'm £200-£250 down if this is the case?
I was told they needed coding as they can be fitted to left or right drivers doors UK/Europe.

The mechanic that did diagnostics said would need recoding too..........but appears in my case did not......for reference the original Drivers door part number was 2098202026 and I fitted same ....... the passenger door has a different module and part number i think is 2098202126.....

Yes, the coding is meant to determine which door is being used as the drivers door.
More features on the drivers side.
Left or right hand drive!
Guess your mechanic was more decent than mine!
ATB!

I took my keys to a locksmith who tested the key for free and that they were OK. I have tied the keyin turn the wheel hard and it worked..

Doesn't work now but two specialist locksmiths said the main dealer must reprogramme the system if the main switch is changed.
