Hi all!

Random question. What sizes do Mercedes Emblems come in?

I'm looking for an 80mm star, 79mm or 81mm. For a very specific mounting. Clips on the back don't matter as I will be grinding them off. It is a non-OEM fitment so I can't just walk into the parts department and ask them for a like for like.

Any recommendations?

Closest I have found is 75mm for centre caps and apparently A2047580058 is 80mm but I have little evidence to back that up.

Probably to replace the one that pops off and dissapears on older V8 engine covers, cheaper than buying the whole front cover part. Thats my guess anyway.

Yup! M113K

I bodged a spare wheel centre on to mine with Q-bond. not quite big enoug to cover the very small holes on the perimeter of the hole but close enough for what I needed. I had a spare one knocking around after replacing some on my car .

The MB invoice for the new ones says. P MB 6 47 0202 (022) Wheel cap E0617F and they were £9.56 each

P.S I also searched high and low for a slightly bigger emblem, without much luck.

This is what I am thinking of doing. Have just picked up a wheel cap from MB and it looks to be a near perfect fit. Might get something 3D printed in black to surround it as a border and hide the small holes. Like a spigot ring. It is only a few mm (1-2) that is needed to give it a perfect fitment.

Mine has been on there for over 10000 miles now. If you are the type who spends a lot of time cleaning under the bonnet the way it looks might bug you as you can see just the tiny holes on the circumference of the wheel cap (now engine star), the other option is a new cover. I did not go down this route as a new front cover would be shiny and bright and I would then have to replace the whole air filter cover to match. Not a priority for me so I stuck (quite literally) with the wheel cap cover.

I will post a photo later.

Like I said, if you are the type that polishes your ignition coils , this is not for you. As the old motocross goggle advert goes " Chick's dig scars...not the empty sockets where your eyes used to be"...this is my engine cover scar :p find something similar at 83mm and you will be sorted. When you do , let me know :D

Different engine cover, same dilemma! I used the boot badge from a W211, still not the right size, but the closest I was going to get to it, without splashing out on a new engine cover!

Detailed on here (post 90):

Project C43 W202

Abb yours doesn't look too bad but I could not live with Pete's. Luckily on the M113k the holes are only 1-2mm larger than a 75mm centre cap star so no where near as obvious as that pic, but that hasn't stopped me finding an ideal solution(!)

So here is the plan - When doing my valve covers I was so tempted to get rid of some grey and paint the surge tanks. So will soon be painting my surge tanks, air filter housings and engine cover in a black. Have already prepped the engine cover and plugged up the old badge holes with and smoothed. So, a somewhat ideal solution if you want to go for the all black look.

Here is what I'm looking to finish up with, in terms of end product (minus the carbon). Not all blacks are equal and I'll be using something I have had much success on engine plastics before. Leaves a matt-very slight sheen that looks like OEM black plastic.

Ha moodie ! You are the type who polishes ignition coils, I can see that from your post and the photos of the engine you aspire to :p fair play to you. I only open my bonnet for maintenance reasons and thats when the contents of the engine bay get a quick rub down with whatever rag I happen to have in my hand :D.

P.S remember if you do find an emblem at around 83mm please let me know :thumb:

Moodi have one in carbon .I can post picture . Free to you if i can help . They are from a set of wheel centers i purchased from you know where that broke on assembly .I have 3 of them centres left @75mm with no job for them. they have been siting in my garage for some time .The backing paper pulls off and you just pop it in place .Thats of for the wheel finishers but for your engine cover i would strip off the glue and use a ht glue to secure them .

Can't admit to polishing ignition coils but it's nice to have a nice clean engine bay. Makes it a pleasure to work on too.

I have some hours of therapeutic cleaning and work ahead :)

Ok thanks will pass as I have got my star looking great... pics to come soon!
