Hey guys,

I'm located in Australia, i have been thinking about coming to
try and make a go of it in the UK for 6 - 12 months. I am a photographer
by trade and are currently employed by carsales.com.au.

I photograph cars for dealerships, edit, colour correct, crop, Etc.
and then upload them to the internet. Is there a similar sort of website
i can get in contact with in the UK. I have had a look at piston heads but was
unable to find a contact them section.

Does anyone have any contacts in the Advertising/Marketing/Photography
industries anything like that, that i can get in contact with?

I have some good experience with high end automotive photography with working on shoots for Holden (Vauxhall), Mazda and Many shoots with Honda.

i have worked with Mercedes-Benz Australia head office with their
marketing team to complete several projects to promote their products,
and would be interested in marketing positions as well.

I am looking at coming over in July so i am just putting my feelers out
to see what's out there. I love a few names/sites if anyone knows anything.

All replies greatly appreciated

Cheers

Brad

I don't want to sound negative here, but most of the car companies over here are losing money in the present financial climate with no sign of it ending anytime soon. Lots of car dealerships are closing down through lack of sales.

Honda are closing their plant for 4 months for example. Not a good time to look for jobs in the motor industry. The banks are not lending, so no one is buying houses or cars, and unemployment is rising by the month.

used car sales are going up!
therefore there is more stock to shoot.

anyway it's just to see if anyone has any contacts
that may help. I'm not after a 100,000 dollar/pound job
i'd just like enough to see the country.

Cheers

Autotrader & most of the other mags / online venues here rely on the seller to supply images.

the company i work with in OZ have arounf 180,000 cars online in which around 3 quarters are cars put up by dealers. we photograph those dealer cars
the days are very long and very busy. just trying to establish if there
was a similar system over there.

plus it's been a mini goal of mine to sit in an English pub for the ASHES :)

Thanks for the reply's i used to work in a bar and i know that job is generally
always available

we shall see....

Thanks

The dealer I know that uses Autotrader photographs his own cars... although they are not great its more a convenience thing.

Hi Brad,

Your idea sounds lovely, although to agree with some of the others here, you might struggle to pin down a job doing the sort of photography that you mention - as has been said, times are getting tough and jobs etc (particularly in the motoring industry) are quite thin on the ground.

If you're looking to just see the country, there's bound to be something else you could do if the photography doesn't pay off - in London, plenty of Aussies make a go of it doing bar work, removals, etc to live off and then enjoy themselves at weekends/evenings etc.

I wish you all the best of luck and hope that you get to make it :)

cheers.

i hope i can make it too :)

i was going to go with Bar work, but if i could find a solid
job i thought i might even make a go of a bit of time over
in Europe. See the worlds greatest driving road, Watched that TOP
GEAR episode yesterday :)

Just thought, if by some crazy fluke someone knew someone,
that was looking. they'd find em self a merc mad photographer.

No stress.

Thanks for your help

Brad

Best of luck matey - not a great time to be finding a job in the UK!!

Little hint - go to Earls Court in London!! They don't call it little Australia for nothing.....

If you can photograph cars - I am sure there are plenty of other things you could photograph for a living in England.

Looking at the weather outside tonight, you must be mad wanting to come to the UK!

Was reading an article today saying used car sales are going up (sub 3k) as for the people buying these cars it is normally a distress purchase because the old one has died:eek: .

Also less new cars being bought must surely push the second hand market up? or at least stabilise it.

As for a job if it involves food or fuel you are prob okay:)
