I know this topic has been discussed before, but never fully explained, but can someone tell me how to totally empty the torque converter of fluid, when doing an auto fluid change.
I have seen references to forcing it out, although I am not at all sure what this means.

Yes read that, totally confused, how can you put new fluid in before the old has been fully removed, which is what the "how to" says. Surely that cant be correct.
What I want to know is how do I empty the torque converter.

You undo the ATF cooler pipe so the old fluid is pumped out by the gearbox pump.

All the ATF circulates round the 'verter and cooler before the gearbox when in normal operation.

What car and year is it? Some have a drain plug on the torque converter, later ones don't. IIRC it was around 1999 that they stoped fitting the drain plug to the torque convertor.

Thanks for that, the car is a C180 w203,so I take it no drain plug,I wonder how much fluid the convertor holds, and if in fact it will mix with new stuff,

About 4 litres in the 'verter.

Thats a lot,so in a 6 litre system as per w203,its 4 ltrs in Verter and 2 litres in circulation,is that correct,
