Enabling Dashcam on mercedes GLB - resolved

Hi,
I thought it would help to share my experience and solution to this.
Got a 2020 GLB, with augmenter reality mbux and all the required hardware to get the dashcam activated.

Going to the car and looking at licenses activated, the dashcam would say "not activated"

Going to the mercedes store, the option to purchase the dashcam would not be presented.

I went to several mercedes authorized dealers and many told me it was impossible to get this extra service and this is why it was not presented on the store as an option to purchase.
One dealer went the extra mile and told me I could install a dashcam for 1800 pounds.

I did not give up as all this did not make sense as with all the hardware needed, there was simply no good explanation to justify this.

Called the mercedes me line and they confirmed that the car should have this option and that it would cost 200 pounds to purchase it and that I should go to a dealer to install some extra software to enable it.

Went to a dealer who first told me that this would not be possible again, I explained again the whole situation and upon them calling Germany, they were told that the car was missing codes in the installed software in the car and that the software needed a complete.re install.

It took few days at the dealer to have all the software uploaded as it seems super slow to do but miracle.... The dashcam purchase option then appeared in my me store.
Purchase it for the 200 pounds and I now have a dashcam fully operational, without adding any new hardware.
I heard I was the first one having this request in the UK and that it was now documented for the next cars who will ask for this.

Two Questions:

1. How do you know if "Augmented Reality" is enabled?

2. Is the the name of the update FreshUp3 (FUP3)?

Hi John,

1) You know if you have augmented reality, if while driving and using the car navigation system, the screen in the car then shows you the street in front of you and arrows pointing to the next direction to use, when arriving at some intersection.

2) this update is not enough, the dealership first tried that but this would not be enough, they eventually had to re install a lot of other updates and software to make it work.

To have dashcam app, vehicle need 21U and 19U equipment codes and your vehicle does not have them, so that is the reason why FU3 update is not showing when dealer is checking if update is available.

Best, call mercedes me line, they will confirm to you what to do based on your exact car model.

Yes, very familiar scenario.

Dealership still do not know how to fix this, I tried few before I found one who resolved it, by working with Germany as no one here knew it was even possible.

I heard that I was the first one in the UK and that they documented the solution in the system for future needs and clients who are part of the mercedes dealership I used.

The best dealership I found was mercedes Chelsea so far. They worked hard and smart and they did not give up until Germany gave them the proper solution.

And it is rather simple to make it work, as long as you know the solution, of course....

And just for the record, I had the same issue like you and Germany told the dealer they had to re install so many software to resolve this, the car was.at the dealership few days as it was so slow to upload all the software needed.

I am sure Germany can resolve this but to go faster, your dealership may contact mercedes Chelsea for the solution,.if they can work together.

Spoke with the "Expert at Milton Keynes, apparently this has never been attempted before, they can try to download all that is required to have Equipment Codes: 21U, 19U and FreshUp3 (FUP3),. Initial Fee up front = 700 Euros and Parts + Labour ON TOP OF THAT! :mad: :wallbash: :wallbash: :eek:!!

Spent over an hour yesterday listening to "Due to (Insert the "C" word here) we are short staffed, an agent will be with you shortly" Accompanied by some crappy background musick! :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :mad:

Tried the "Chat Line" this morning explaining that I need to talk to the Service Department! :rolleyes:

After four or five re-iterations of why I wanted to contact them I kept getting asked to call the Number and replying: 0208 870 9811 DOES NOT GET ANSWERED! I have basically given up for now! :mad: :wallbash: :mad: :wallbash: :eek::oops:

Purchased dash cam for 200 bucks from Me store and its showing active there. But when I check the car, its showing deactivated. I think it could be the issue with the software you mentioned in the post. Anyway, I have an appointment with service center next week, hopefully they can fix it. Fingers crossed !

Thanks for telling aboat the dashcam, but where to find the codes or the app? There seems to be already a daschcam mounted, but how to activated it is the biggest problem? i try to call the Me in Norway and here is the answer i got.

Every country seems to treat their customers the same unacceptable way, just a bit different words here and there but essentially saying "we don't care about you, we just want to avoid doing our job at work".

There are EU countries that support (the Mercedes) dashcam, there are also EU countries that don't support it. Which one would Norway follow in the future? This is not about EU regulations or tax rules or does Mercedes allow breaking rules in some countries?

By the way, there should be a trick to enable dashcam in Norway. Possible to purchase it then from the Mercedes Me Shop.

Have the service centre got the dashcam working now? I'm wondering if I need to go down the same route as I supposedly have an integrated dashcam in my new E class but am now being told by the dealership that they are only activated in the new C class.
