Hi team

could anyone tell me if is it necessary to change engine mounts and gearbox mounts if the car reaches 60000 mile mark?
Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you

Well I would think it a bit early for gearbox mounts, your gearbox might do with a service at 60 grand but the engine mounts should also last longer without changing them

probably Not a direct comparison engine wise , but my mounts were changed at 107k on my om642 just recently because I picked some up cheap . The om642 has massive torque , so I understand it’s the drivers side mount which goes first as it has more to deal with .
I would say unless you have excessive engine movement or vibration then leave it a bit .
I had the tranny mount done as well as a treat to the old girl

It's hard to say as each car would have been driven differently. I had a vibration through my gearbox tunnel, when stationary with foot on the brake. Turns out it was gearbox mounts. I had them replaced along with engine mounts. The engine should have a little play on revving, but if over excessive maybe time to replace. Had gearbox and engine mounts replaced on mine at 64k

Hi
To check your mounts, put the car in drive, foot on the foot brake and rev the engine, there should be no or very little movement from the engine
Certainly not as much as this one posted by PCS of a V6 203 Chassis

Powerful AMG engines place a lot of stress on the engine mounts. mine (cls55 were changed at 70k) But if you have no symptoms then it would simply be a precaution. If you are doing the engine mounts you may as well do the gearbox at the same time whilst the engine is jacked up. About £400 fitted as I recall.

I have got a small amount of vibration on my 2011 E220 between 1500 and 2000 rpm in each gear. I can drive through it above 2000rpm but there is vibration if I coast back down the rev range to below 1500 rpm. The gearbox is operating normally with smooth gear changes.

I am thinking it could be engine mounts but there is no noticeable engine movement when I do the rev test with the box on neutral.

Just to add the gearbox fluids were changed about 25k miles ago with a full flush and the car has done 318k miles with all original parts still present.

I am guessing its getting a bit tired but passed the MOT yesterday with no issues.

Any thoughts ?

Sorry, just noticed after posting I have invaded the AMG lounge with a 220 diesel :D

Maybe a kind mod could move to general discussion, I hang my head in shame.

No , just buy an AMG badge off Ebay and slap it on. No one will ever know ;)

Flattery will get you everywhere guys but about the vibration? :dk:

:)

At 318k your engines mounts and transmission mount need changing buddy . Relatively cheap job

Amazingly all the suspension etc is original apart from one rear shock absorber bush which had slight movement at 80k ish miles and was replaced under warranty. Mercedes of that era were quite well made.

Just need to justify it to myself that the car is worth spending a few £00's on.

I know what you mean , nobody likes unnecessary work . You either need a merc Indy to try and diagnose the slight vibration or start by spending the smaller amounts of money on the likely culprits .
As you have just recently done the gearbox ATF then that’s part of the likely problem areas done (unless it’s gearbox internals going wrong at that mileage )
Next up it’s got to be mounts and they are a part that needs doing ?

I had mine done at just under 100k. I thought it was fine (no discernible movement on the static rev test) but i drove a W212 courtesy car that had new mounts while mine was in for a service and it was clear mine needed doing! Transformed the car - much smoother and quieter and gear changes also seem a lot smoother.

Pretty close to Alex Crow who did the fluid change so he will be my first port of call to get a quote.

I think I have had 24 services, all bar the last two by the main dealer so it has been well looked after.

It is more that the car is only worth maybe £2k at best with that mileage and any significant problem would make it financially unviable. It owes me nothing and earned me a good living for several years so I do have an attachment to it but not at any cost. I would hate to spend a few £00 only to have a big item failure.

But then it should be good for 500k miles at least 🤞

The engine and gearbox mounts for my M113 engine and 7G-tronic box were changed at the 120k mark.
