How simple/difficult is it to remove the engine cover and air boxes from a CLS 55? Also the two bits that have AMG machined into them wither side of the SC? (I think they are the valve covers :dk:)

Reason being I was thinking of giving them a makeover, possibly hydrodipping the plastic covers (carbon, black or lambo orange) and spraying what I think are the valve covers black.

Instructions??

The air intake and the engine covers just comes off.

Just pull off the cover first and then the air intakes ( take off the intake pipes first by compressing them) the air boxes are just clipped in.

The aluminium covers with the AMG logo are the intake plenums. They are easy to take off by undoing the 6 screws on each side. There's a jubilee clip that needs to be undone where it meets the SC at the back.

Once you take them off be very careful not to drop any dirt/dust down the opening. As a precaution, I would vacuum out the area after removing the air boxes before removing the intake plenums.

When you fit them back, use a new seal.

I have had mine done in wrinkle black. Will try and post a picture soon.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for that Don. When you had the plenums done, were the shot blasted & powder coated ?
It's the gasket/seal a straightforward job? Wrinkle black sounds good, looking forward to the pics!

Hi Abb,

yes they were shot blasted and powder coated and the logos sanded down. The seals are straightforward, just get them from the dealers and replace them. I had mine replaced when they were doing some work on the engine
