Engine cut out now wont start - star required

Hi, just registered here having trouble with my 2011 e350.

The car suddenly cut out on the motorway, seemed to be running fine no issues just suddenly died. The car rolled to a stop and was recovered home.

The car now wont start turn the key hear 3 quick clicks as if something trying to open and nothing.

The electrics in the car seem very odd since it cut out the windows and mirrors playing up, the seatbelt extenders now come out a lot further than they ever have and stay out, the dash flickers, sometimes the key dosnt work and have to swap keys, this does the same with both keys, the cooling fan sonetimes comes on full speed when i remove the key. All fuses seem fine.

Does this seem familiar to anyone?
Can anyone recommend someone with Star in the west yorkshire area who could come out and have a look.

As for the clicks. dash flicker and electrics, these could be battery related. Have you tested the battery and alternator?

Hi Wardy and welcome .

Engine cutting out while on the on the motorway is no fun at all , been there (Vauxhall cam belt 80mph lane 3 automatic gearbox , engine toast) Glad you are OK.

Question . How many miles on the car and how is the service history . ?

120k and yes full history and been serviced as it should while ive had it
Yes i have had the battery charged fully and tried with a known working battery

When it cut out it didnt make any nasty noise just simply died and clocks straight to zero and it stayed in drive and rolled, i changed to Neutral and rolled it off luckily was late night so not much traffic

It had last been serviced around 3k miles prior to stopping

Wonder if you have a transmission / gearbox problem. if its locked up this might cause the engine to appear seized and cause electrical problems? you need a garage with star diagnostics or equivalent system that can check the transmission conductor plate-lock up clutch.

There's a guy on fleebay in Oldham if thats any help. I just typed in star diagnostics and a couple came up, £50 + call out. I didn't need it in the end. At least you have got more results on here than I did lol. Welcome by the way.

An off the wall thought - do you have a local taxi firm that runs a fleet of MB's, probably E220CDI's? We have one down here in Ashford called Arrow Taxis, they have their own "garage" called Arrow Mainenance who not only look after their own fleet but also do customer cars, have full genuine Star/Xentry, have rescued me twice so far and their charges are really good, especially if you pay in cash and do not want an invoice!
