Just moved near Clacton on Sea and looking for someone to give my engine a clean - it’s showing it’s age now with 155k on.
Thanks

Hi There, I am sorry you have not had any replies to your post. I have not used any local detailers so cannot comment on their prices or service. If you would like to just "spruce up" your engine bay it is quite easy to do it yourself.
Spray liberal amounts of APC (all purpose cleaner) or a heavy grease remover on stubborn areas (all available at reasonable cost at your local Halfrauds or Amazing on line, you can also use the specialised on line shops). You can also use a paintbrush or toothbrush depending on your level of OCD. then after 5 minutes rinse off with a hose (do not use a pressure washer) and take note not to douse too much over the electrics. Dry off any excess with a blower or compressed air gun and also microfibres cloths. Then titivate all the plastic bits with a quick detailer to make everything look nice and new.
Run the engine for 20 minutes to make sure everything is nice and dry

DO NOT FORGET to do the underside of the bonnet first, you would be surprised how many people do not realise they have missed that until its too late and they have to start all over again lol

Hope this helps

You got it that clean in 20 min 😳

Using a pressure washer in the engine bay would make me EXTREMELY nervous!

Yep, 20 minutes.
I always cover the main electrical items with plastic bags.
To be fair, this is mainly surface dust and not oil residue so comes away easily.
I never dwell with the pressure washer.
It's the WD40 and dressing that makes it look like hours of work.

I would also add as a general note to make sure no water can get to the spark plug wells (or at least remove it if it does) - for petrols of course. I made that mistake on my Alfa and i had to spend a week of gingerly extracting a rusted spark plug after annointing with plusgas - turning back a forth a few degrees at a time. A very nervous experience!

For alloy bits Allubrite from Raceglaze is very good then i use ACF50 to protect all the metal bits.

Ive found once you've given it a good go once, it's not too difficult to keep it looking nice.

Another good thing about doing it yourself is that it gives a good chance to familiarise yourself with all the components and do a bit of a check at the same time. Anything loose or rubbing, corroding, parts of the loom popped out of their restraints, any leaks etc. And of course it offers the chance to purchase more cleaning products!
