engine going crazy

Hi, I have a w202 v6 2400. it has thrown up a code of p 1580 which says that the electronic accelerator /cruise control/ idle speed controller is the fault, Which makes sense as the tick over is all over the place and sometimes looses all power. Hunts and revs between 2000-3500 all on its own and accelerates away with no input from me, making me nervous. My question is where do I look for the offender?? tia

Further to the above. I have found code p1580, electronic accelerator/ cruise control/idel speed controller. please can any one tell me where to look.

I woul say get it on a star machine for conclusive diag to pin the offending part down.
