Engine Hunting???

Hi

Had a mechanic describe this as engine hunting....but he's never fixed it

W124 500E 1991 see:

Best way to describe it is basically that the engine just revs up and down when idling in gear at lights etc, still does it out of gear but not half as bad!!

Hi I just this sec placed a post regarding hunting...I just changed the MAF probe and now at idle the car revs between 800 and back to 500 rpm? it did not do this with the old unit...however the new unit has changes some of the old problems.

The MAF eh? Interesting, what did that set you back on your model?

The symptoms range from sticky idle control valve or throttle flap to possible (but unlikey) MAF, to air leak or air leaking in via EGR or emission control valve.

Indeed, been very busy with work and life in general

Sent the 500E off Nov 2009 to get upper wiring harness replaced with a new one. I then had her shipped to a Merc Gearbox specialist to have it completely rebuilt with new parts. Due to my lack of attention, this all took over a year to get sorted and now have her back, so she's up for sale!!
