Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated.

My car is a 2001 CLK 230 kompressor.

About 3 months ago the engine light came on but I kept driving the car until one day I noticed a loss of power, I restarted the car and the problem went away but I felt we should get it checked out so I took it to a garage that has the star / merc diagnostics machine, they gave me a report (attached) and mentioned the o2 sensor and the gearbox conductor plate would likely need changing. They didn't have time to change the parts as it was just before Christmas so they only did the machine diagnosis. I mentioned to them that the O2 sensors had already been changed (as I initially felt this may be the issue) but they mentioned one may have been provided faulty, they said they did not know which one was faulty but when I told them (after a google search) the fault code on the report refers to the front sensor they said "oh well that's the one then". We then changed the front 02 sensor again (bosh brand) but after about 10 miles of driving the engine light came on again today. As you can imagine, due to their uncertainty I wanted to get another opinion. Does anyone think from the attached report that the gearbox conductor plate is the likely issue or could this be something else. The car currently starts and drives fine but the engine light is still on

Thanks in advance for any assistance and best wishes for the new year to everyone.

Images of the report is shown below too (i.e. if link above is not working)

Sorry mate, can't follow that printout, If I were you, I'd go to a proper garage that can read their own reports ! If there's a speck of dirt on a mat, Star will tell you which one, slight exaggeration but not much. Even your dash display will tell you which bulb has failed, mine's telling me number plate lamp, right side. I do not believe for one second that Star can't diagnose such an important part. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I would second that, these mercs need a proper star software diagnosis, generic code readers, even the best ones, wont tell you enough. Do you know any merc specialists near you?

Maybe some one on here can help recommend one for you. cheers

Hi guys, just to confirm this was done using a star machine - if you zoom into it the report it can be clearly viewed

Ah sorry didn't see that. There are people on here who should be able to advise further and hopefully give some better advice. Good luck

I'm new to Mercedes, but would a gearbox fault put the engine warning light on.

Yes, it can. Also, the other way too - i.e. a non-gearbox fault triggering the EML can also put the gearbox in to 'limp mode' where the gearbox is hesitant (or outright refuse to) change up a gear resulting in a revy engine.

Ok.Thanks we live and learn. I know the Jag I had the engine could go into limp mode for all sorts of non related engine issues. I once heard of the engine going into limp mode due to a faulty rear wheel ABS sensor. But I didn't no that the EML light would be triggered.

Hi,

You probably have oil in your engine loom that has damaged the O2 sensor and will continue to do so unless you fix the leak. The oil comes from the cam magnets on the front of the engine usually. You will need (genuine parts only) Engine loom, probably both O2 sensors, cam magnet and blocker loom (modified part to stop it happening again)

Cleaning the loom doesn't work.

I am surprised the MB specialist didn't tell you this as its a very very common issue.

These are the blockers fitted on my M271 CLK (with green labels on )
