Driving home about 30 minutes ago I pulled out from the New Forest on to the A35. It has traffic coming up fast at times so a decisive get away to join the road is always best. As I did so the engine warning light came on.

I had started the car a few minutes previously and at that time the low fuel warning came on. The car is feeling slightly sluggish and reluctant to kick down and when I got home the idle was a little rough and it is reluctant to pick up cleanly from low rpm. Would low fuel upset it this much? The range to empty at the time it happened said approximately 32 miles.

Update:

I had some fuel in the barn for the mowers etc so put 5 litres in last night. The EML is still on this morning but the idle has now stabilised and kickdown is working.

Update 2:

I attached my OBD scanner tonight and got a P0306 - Cylinder 6 misfire detected.

I have managed to clear the fault but any clues as to the likely cause? According to the service history the spark plugs were changed 15,000 miles ago so I am suspecting an ignition module?

As the running improved when you put some fuel in, I'm wondering if you have a sticky fuel injector? Would do no harm to put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank. You could take the plug out and see what it's like.

Thanks. Not sure why adding fuel would clear a sticking injector? Also, the poor idle misfire has returned!

It is going in to my MB specialist tomorrow for a pilot bush to be changed in the gearbox so I will get him to look at it and report back. Are the ignition modules or the injectors a known weak point on these?

Also, as there are two per cylinder would one faulty spark plug cause a misfire?

Neither are a weak point as far as I know, I did have a similar problem on a c240 that turned out to be a faulty coil-pack, It would idle ok but hesitate when driving, no eml light showing though.

Is it due a service shortly? Might be worth changing the plugs or check them and give em' a clean up?

Had the A service 400 miles ago. Any idea of the type / specification of the plugs on the 3.2 V6?

I tried to but I have left it at work as I had it out of the car to check something yesterday and am not back at work until Tuesday :(
