W208 CLK200 cabrio. W209 CLK 200 cabrio
Car has been laid up & all was working well at last static run a few months ago but now battery was flat. Left battery connected & on trickle charge for a week. On starting, EML came on & car died after a few minutes. Subsequently car now starts & runs but EML still on. Tried to plug in OBD reader but port doesn’t seem to be connecting ( checked reader on my other W209 CLK & it works fine, so it’s not the reader) . MOT has expired & it won’t pass with EML on.

Any thoughts / ideas ?

Check the fuse for the OBD port first.

Get that working and then you can check the fault codes 👍

The w208 doesn’t use the obd plug under the dash. It has the 38 pin connector under the bonnet.

The OP said they had an OBD Port.?

OBD2 was compulsory in the USA frim1996 and many manufacturers started fitting it in vehicles sold in Europe before it became compulsory in the EU from model year 2001 for petrol cars.

It became compulsory in diesel vehicles from 2004.

Find a kindly MOT guy who will switch the EML off before doing the test?
