Engine noise

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help. I have 2003 CLK 320, it's got this high pitched whine from the engine getting louder the more you accelerate, I was told that it could be the power steering pump which I have replaced but the noise is still there. Apart from the noise the car drives great. Any help or advice would be great.

Remove belts and start car, if noise is gone, then there is an issue with a bearing on one of the auxiliaries that the belt runs, water pump, idler etc. Then fit the belts again and try to pin point the noise.

Then go from there
