I have bought an 1996 inline 6 Merc C280.

I'm not sure what brand of oil and ATF was used at the last service (not main dealer or specialist), so I was wondering what people might recommend so I can get the bits and service the car on the Bank Hol weekend.

Thank you.

Mercedes oil is cheap enough on ebay, I think 229.5 is for your petrol but double check. For the ATF, one of the listed brands are fine. Is it a 722.6 box? If so, check the list below. You can select the right fluid from the drop down menu if you require other than 234.14

Yes a 722.6 box. I just found out that Carlube ATF-Q was put in the box at last service. Could this be why I'm getting a weapage from ATF from the Shift Rod Selector at the back of the box? The Carlube stuff isnt specified on the sheet you gave.

Thanks

The sheet shows all approved oils. Anything else is at your own risk. As an ATF is not done annually, I would just use one from the list
