Done a search but can't find anything.

    What oil should I use?
    Handbook is no help:(

It's not to be done for about 6K.

Yer Iknow that stuff and I'm a member of that forum, what I understand is that if you do regular oil changes, say 4-6k wich I normally do anyway, that should be OK without that oil.

yes i'm going to start using Halfords own brand. apparently its good anyway, but if you are changing more often anyway then i reckon its perfectly fine.

Plus at the moment u get a good set of screwdrivers free. I have 3 sets already!!!!!

Try Fuchs engine oil, Fuchs is apparently factory fill engine oil for most german marks.

Best place I found for oil was Asda/Wallmart - they had a special on Havoline mineral 15/40, 5ltrs for £7.50, also had their own brand which had the equivalent AP rating for £6.50

Bear in mind that the 606 is a relatively low-revving, unstressed engine in a low state of tune. It'll run on any old oil

But it has hydraulic tappets, two cams, 24 valves and a duplex chain and they all need lubricating. It also dumps lots of soot into the oil

So I'd use a good oil (in that it meets MB minimum specs) with enough detergents, etc to keep the engine internals clean. I'd change it on schedule (9k) or use a 6k interval if you're really keen. And I'd use an MB filter

But I wouldn't put Mobil 1 in it - I'd spend the money on new bushes & engine mounts where it'll make a difference

I ask about what the handbook says, because I run a W124 with a naturally aspirated OM606.

I'm sure that my service regime is exceeding the requirements for oil standard, but, I would be interested in what MB say in their handook for the OM606 in the W210. Perhaps a W210 owning member of the forum would be kind enough to post the oil quality and oil change frequency advice written therein.
