I was wondering if someone could give me some much needed advice.

On March 31st 2020 (just before lock down) i took my Mercedes GLC for a Service A at an official Mercedes garage for a service at 67k miles. Prior to this service my car was as smooth as butter.

Part of the service A Mercedes carried out involved a brake fluid change, engine oil change, filter change and ad-blue top up as well as an emission software update.

After this service my GLC now judders for at low speeds just before you come to a stop. I have taken the vehicle back three times to Mercedes - they carried out a gearbox and torque convertor adaptation and changed the gearbox oil. This seem to still not solve the problem. Mercedes representatives carried out all checks and no error codes show up.

The judder only occurs just before the vehicle comes to a stop. It always occurs regardless of whether the vehicle is hot or cold. If i use the manual paddle shift the judder still occurs.

I also took the vehicle to an independent garage and had the transmission mounts changed and that still hasn't solved the problem. I've been told it may be the Torque Convertor but no error code shows up when a diagnostics is carried out. somebody please help!

The sensation of the shudder you get is the feeling when you ride the clutch on a manual car - the whole vehicle shakes. This only occurs on gear 2.

Can anyone advice? I feel really down by the situation and it has caused me a lot of stress.

Hello Pete, Its a Mercedes GLC 2015 Plate. 220d 4 Matic. Full Mercedes Benz service history.

Hello All,
Did you ever find a solution to this? I had my GLC serviced today and have noticed exactly the same thing, I would describe it as a shudder almost like when coming to a stop in a manual car and pushing the clutch in a fraction to late.

The car has done 140k and had a service A.

Thanks

Hello Sam,

One year on and many disputes with Mercedes and unfortunately i still dont have solution. The shudder still haunts me today and just thinking about it causes me alot of stress.

Mercedes insist car is fine but due to lockdown restrictions ive never been able to test drive with a mercedes mechanic to prove the problem.

Ive spent money on changing the gearbox bearings, fresh gearbox oil and still no change. Im being told by a private mechanic it could most likely be torque convertor lock up but for me to replace this will cost almost £3,000 which i simply cannot afford.

Let me know if you are able to find the solution. A big injustice was done against me as the problem only occured after a service.

Hi Ruhul,

Wow - I am sorry to hear that! Did your car have a transmission service before the issues started? Due to the mileage mine had "Automatic transmission: oil and filter change / Oil change of transfer case (4MATIC)".

This is the second time I have had the transmission service, the first time was at a different dealer, after that one I had issues too as they overfilled the transmission which caused the car to jolt when changing gear! I am going to drive the car for a bit today and then call the dealer to tell them if it doesnt clear itself. I will let you know if we get anywhere.

Thanks

Sam

Hello Sam,

Were you able to get to the bottom of what the problem could be? My transmission still shudders just before coming to a stop.

Why not try taking the car to a MOT station and get them to check the brakes in the rollers just to rule out a problem with warped discs....... Might be the brakes juddering as you are coming to a stop.

Recently started suffering with juddering or stalling when coming to a stop or slowing right down, initially took it to a diesel injection Indy who found no problem. Now it judders a little under acceleration up hill. Merc Indy told me probably the torque converter. I always thought it felt like not putting your foot on the clutch when stopping a manual so i think it may be the lock up not releasing? Car is a 2008 w204, 167k, any thoughts ?

engine mounts? common on models of this era.. Similar symptoms on mine but not as bad. Mines going in mid October for an A service, Mercedes specialist says engine mounts are most likely suspect, they change a lot with good results

Yes but my issue is the stalling, suspected torque converter lock out not releasing.

I have the same issues ... did you find the problem ?

did you find the problem ? I have the same issue ! :(

Did any of you find a resolution to this as I have exactly the same issue (2016 GLC 250 4Matic)..... It feels like it is going to stall when going very slowly, although never does. My wife has the same car (very slightly newer) and hers is fine.

This is more performance orientated but the second paragraph hints at TQ 'stall' speed . Fitting uprated/different stall speed TC's is common in the world of muscle cars. Simply put the TC is not disconnecting the driven wheels from the in gear transmission by the time the car comes to a stop, same as if the clutch was left in (plates together) when coming to a stop in a manual car = engine stalls.

Hi, did you solve the problem or still have the same ? I have the same problem and I cannot find the reason !

Unfortunately not - it makes me sad everyday knowing mercedes do not acknowledge the fault they caused. Whats worse is that i dont even know what the problem is. If it is a torque convertor problem i simply cannot afford to change this as ive been qouted £3,000+

Let me know if anyone on this thread was able to resolve?

Im wondering if this was down to the emissions software update/downgrade.

Lots of stories of woes after this being done. I refused to have mine downgraded when mine went in to have the airbag recall done.

just a thought.
