Engine sound proofing

My B class engine (diesel) has started to sound noisey and 'rattley', i'm thinking of getting the engine bay soundproofed, anyone got any experience of the products on offer and do they work?

I think I'd be more inclined to find out why the engines suddenly become obtrusively noisy rather than tryng to mask the problem with sound proofing. You may be ignoring the warning signs of a developing problem
