are any precautions necessary?

mabe some experts will shed some light but all replies welcome. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I steam cleaned my 300sl last month with great results. I would advise you to go and buy some Gunk spray first to penetrate really tough oil deposits. Not too sure about your engine but the usual precautions to cover exposed electrical components such as distributor cap fuse/relay compartment.
Do not concentrate too much spray into the air intakes as u may have a problem starting afterwards.
Obviously do not have the engine running when you steam it and once finished start the engine and leave the bonnet up to dry the engine off.
Good luck happy steaming

Took mine to local hand car wash/valet centre.
20 minutes, 10 quid, job done.
Now a pleasure to work in engine bay.
Tried gunk years ago - car stunk of gunk for weeks. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
