Has anyone put a later diesel 300d engine in a w108.I have a 280s and want to use it as a daily driver but mpg is too high.I have seen a w108 with a diesel engine at a car show and was wondering would a 300d w115 engine fit or maybe later model?

There's a couple of garages around Dublin who specialise in this. One is at Annesley Bridge and might be called the Waterfall car company, although that could be their next door neighbours. The other is Rory's Mercedes.

May not help you but I've got me eye on a W108 in Portugal, where I will soon be moving, and someone has put a 240D engine in it. I can think of worse choices but not many :D
If I get it the long term plan will be to swap for etiher a 5 or 6 cylinder 300 - the MO617 turbo was used up until the early W126, and after that they got the OM603 SOHC 6 cylinder 300. In an ideal world it'll be an OM 603 turbo :)

I know this is an old post but did you ever do the diesel engine swap in the w108?
No sligo.Never bothered to put diesel in.Asked a old mechanic friend of my father's.He said he used to put nissan bluebird diesel engines in w108/w114/w115 in Dublin for taxi drivers for mileage reasons.Said he done it a couple of times and worked pretty well. The guy that I saw the 300 diesel engine In the w108 worked in dublin airport. He used it as a daily driver.Used to see him on the road quite a bit.He said it worked great.Interesting to see if anybody on forum has done it.

Surely the money spent in this would far outweigh the fuel savings, unless you intend to use it as a taxi. No?

Yes Ray.I gave up on the idea a long time ago but just wondering has anybody on the forum fitted a alternative engine to a w108 either for fuel economy or performance.?
