engine transplant e300 diesel

i have just bought a 1996 n reg e 250 diesel manual gearbox this car is the first of the new shape i also have a 1994 e300 diesel w124 automatic i would if possible like to put the 300 diesel engine in the new shape e250 car does anyone know if this is a possibility obvious differences i can see is the new shape car is drive by wire throttle and the speedo is electronic not a cable other problems could be back axle propshaft etc any help would be much appreciated before anybody says why get rid of the w124 this car has been run into the back of by a little numty in a corsa so is a cat c write off
 
I believe you can remove the electric speedo sender from the later box and the older mechanical sender bolts straight up

Further to that, though, you'll be doing a manual -> auto swop and that'll entail a fair amount of work. You'll ideally need a complete W210 gear shift lever & mechanism, plus possibly the centre console, to make it look right

Personally I wouldn't go to the trouble. I'd throw a 320 CDi engine in and sell the E300
