Am documenting below the sequence as it happened:

1. Turn key to ignition on, no heater glow plug indicator on and starter does not turn.
2. Switched off and removed key to try again, now the enigne cooling fan remains on even after the key is removed and there is a hyper clicking sound coming from a black unit located on the right side (as you stand in front of the car looking towards the engine) near the firewall.
3. Disconnected the battery cause there was no way to stop the fan and the clicking!!!
4. Opened the clicking black unit cover to reveal a host of wiring and connectors and fuses.
5. The 4th (10A) fuse if removed results in the heater working again, the clicking stops and the enigne fan turns off. The engine turns over and starts, but now, the fan runs at full speed with the ignition on and the display says 2 malfunctions 1. Elec. Power Cont. Fault & 2. Engine fan... fault visit workshop (obviously the fuse removed sets of this fault.)

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you might have a short circuit somewhere on the circuit controlled by fuse 4.

Perhaps the windings on the fan motor have shorted to ground. Time to get the multimeter out and check resistances.

The clicking noise is likely to be a relay. I believe there is more than one in that area of the car so without narrowing it down further, I'd take a stab at it possibly being the OVP relay. (also worth testing)

Should'nt the fuse fail in that case?

Yes, it sounds like an relay possessed...

OVP relay ???

Thanks in advance.

This requires a check on the Star diag. Have taken an appt. with my regular indy for tomorrow. Hopefully it is a minor relacement. Will post updates for any one interested.

You were absolutely correct.
Turns out that there was a carbon build up on the circuit board (probably on account of moisture) which finally shotred out a circuit. Fortunately, cleaning the carbon off cured the problem.

But, locating the exact area of the short requires real hands on experience...Anyon else would have changed the relay box and be done with it, costing me 3 times as much. All this done by my indy...(he's quite a wizard) :thumb:
