Further to my recent thread regarding the ESP/BAS defect flashing up on my dash, I had the codes cleared by a specialist Merc garage but not a dealer, who said if the problem comes up again bring it back. The car is a 2002 CLK 320 W209.

Once again the ESP/BAS failure came up yesterday so this morning I took it back to the guys, who after half an hour couldn't find the exact cause via the STAR machine as the codes weren't telling them much. The delved alittle further and believe it to be the ESP Control Module which they estimate will cost £1000...

I mentioned the brake switch as a potential problem but they didnt seem to think this as an issue as they thought a code would show up and say this.

Has anyone else heard/seen this issue before, and is it likely to be a new ESP Control Module?

Any help would be appreciated!

Could well be the module but dd they check the alternator charging? ESP is the first system to be upset if the voltage is too high or low.

Can a faulty brake light switch not cause these lights to show ?

£10 ish ? worth trying first , takes approx 10 seconds to fit.

Im not sure if his car has a brake switch, a lot of them moved to a switch on the actual brake booster rather than on the pedal.

I just had the roll bar link arms, wish bone & track rod ends changed on both front sides. Then whilst traveling home I got this dreaded ESP Defective!!!
I also got all my tracking done & the car is runny straight. Any advice would be VERY Much Appreciated...
I will also check to see the battery voltage aswel.
