Hey, I have a 2008 c220 cdi. I’ve had the front 2 and rear left tyres (part worn, I know never again lol!) changed. To which afterwards I’ve had problems with the esp ever since. I took it to a merc garage. To which they said the front left wheel had an issue, so I went and got a brand new wheel hoping it would fix the problem. To no avail the esp light is still coming on. I’ve had a diagnostic test on it. Nothing comes up, literally nothing. It only kicks into esp inoperative when going over 70mph for a 30+ second period of time... any ideas? Don’t want it costing an arm and a leg. But don’t expect anything less with my merc these days haha!

Have you checked the obvious i.e. are the tyres the correct size and matching?

Have you reset the tyre pressure monitor after proper inflating pressures ? And the obvious above ..

So you have two new tyres on the front, and one new tyre and a worn tyre on the back? If so are you 100% sure both rear tyres are the same size?

Are all the tyres the same size, or do you have a staggered setup (wider tyres at the back)?

What was the issue identified by the garage?

Not sure how the N/S/F wheel was diagnosed unless clearly damaged as you say a diagnostic showed up nothing. Sounds more like a sensor (ABS) than a wheel but strange how it has happened since tyres were changed. Nothnig wrong with part worn tyres if they haven't had any damage.

Is the garage using a decent diagnostic tool? I would be inclined to get it on STAR as a fault (ESP) is obviously flagging up so there should at least be a stored fault code

2 new on the front, rear left is part worn. But has been checked and is fine.

I think you have just cracked it.. it is a staggered set up and there’s bigger rim at the front left and back right. Then smaller rim front right and rear left!!!

It was by a reputable local merc specialist. Not sure what kind of equipment they use!

So is that the issue the garage identified?
If not I'd certainly not be using them again...

Yup, that will probably upset things!

As said, this would definitely cause issues! Either you ordered the incorrect wheel or the fitters have fitted them wrong. If all the wheels have the correct tyre size for their corner then you will either have a mixture of new/used tyres across the axle or you will need to replace one of the tyres. Not good work by your specialist.

no, they literally only ran a diagnostic for me and said that the esp light isn’t coming up on the system that it had even come on!

the tyres didn’t come from the specialist. That was just a local tyre place. Only thing the merc garage did was run a diagnostic for me, which they said nothing was appearing in the scan
