well i was hoping i wouldnt have to do this type of post yet but yesterday morning i got a esp warning take car to garage ( 1 malfunction )and driving to work the cruise control didnt work .
for the drive home i got a esp not available message and no malfunction ? and the cruise control worked on the way home .
the car is driving totally normally otherwise and exactly the same happened today ?
has anyone any ideas on this and why it is different in the morning to the afternoon ?

To see what is causing the fault it will need to be plugged in. Why the fault message is different I am not sure?

how much would that cost ?

ive only had the car since saturday , its got a 3 month warranty with rac but i cant see anything about whether plugging it in for diagnosis is covered

what are the main things that usually come up with this type of fault ?

Diagnosis is not covered by aftermarket warranties.

Cost depends what is wrong. Some diagnosis can take minutes, some can take hours. It also depends where you take it. You will need a garage with a Star diag machine.

ive just seen your link and i live about 25 minutes away from your garage , how competitive are your prices ?

I had the same problem and symptoms. Its to do with lack of fuel pressure. Try changing the fuel filter, I did and have done 6000 miles since with no problems

could be a number of things... wheel speed sensor, lateral sensor or ESP control module, the other one could be the sensor in the servo, in some models the sensor is removable in others you have to buy a servo. The servo contains a BAS release switch and I have seen them where the master cylinder has leaked inside the servo and then the sensor malfunctions intermittently.

You don't need to worry about Olly's prices and his reputation is second to none. 25 minutes away is virtually on his doorstep - what are you waiting for?

Well I'd like to wait until I'm 100% sure I cannot sort it out myself first. I read in the handbook it could be due to the battery not charging or low voltage I think it was . So this morning I turned the auto lights off and the problems disappeared . I know the car hasn't been driven for about 3 months because of when the tax ran out . Will have to see what happens on the drive home ?

Olly is your man. Many people including me travel a long way for him to work on their car. Extremely helpful, amazing amount of knowledge and very good prices. You will be hard pushed to find better. The only drawback is that he is too popular and you need to book well in advance.

forgot to mention when the esp not available message came on it was only for a few seconds so im guessing it was working once the message went ?

Just take it to Olly. If I was 25mins away, my car would already have been there!
My local garage charges £25 just to get the readout.

because at this moment there is no fault to check out and i wouldnt want to waste his valuable time . if the the fault re occurs i will go from there thanks .

Nothing for nearly a month then the same thing happened yesterday . I think my car might be female ? ;)

Same problem with me, near enough every morning I get an ESP error on dash, visit workshop...

Sometimes it goes away after driving around 30 miles..

tried resetting the steering sensor in the morning does not clear the error

Diagnostic code: c1142= Lateral acceleration sensor or micromechanical turnrate and steering angle sensor, open-circuit/short-circuit,voltage supply, plausibility

went a step furthur yesturday & opened the boot lining & unplugged the lateral accelerarion sensor in the boot, wiggled the wire around, checked its visual condition, & when I plugged back in & started car it was gone, until this morning..

when the error was there I checked the livedata readings of the 4x wheel sensors they were working fine.

I then checked the livedata on the steering sensor & that was working fine too.

But when I checked the lateral acceleration sensor reading it seemed to be fluctuating on & around 172.2 meters second & the readings did not change when I went around the block to check & confirm the readings...

As above... Olly can also give it a good look and let you know if all is well with the car and what to look-out for... plus it will need servicing in future, so might as well make yourself known to him :)

If you get a clear month's run every now and then, you're doing fine ;). Not talking about the car. :D
