Esp warning light sometimes stays on when first starting up, if you switch off and restart 9 times out of 10 it'll go out. Today I started getting a vibration under the car and when I braked the car shuddered as if I had badly warped discs. I then noticed that the esp warning light was flickering. Anyone got any ideas, its a w164 ml.

Quite possibly a faulty wheel speed sensor.
It needs looking at by a Mercedes independant. Steer clear of the main dealer if you can. The diagnostic and labout rates are eye watering in comparison to an indy.

Thank you very much for the info, I'm getting a diagnostic done later so l will wait and see what the outcome is. I did actually think it was a faulty sensor or a loose connection myself.

I eventually got a diagnostic done today on the ML and all was well with the speed/Abs sensors, but what did show up was the Steering Angle sensor. I had the tracking re set a few months ago, would this have caused my problems.? Does the Steering Angle sensor need resetting after the trackings been altered? Can it be reset, as on the diagnostic I had done today there wasn't any way it could be done,or is there an easier to rectify the problem.

This video shows how to reset your steering angle sensor

If that doesn't work, you probably will need a new sensor if that is the diagnosis.
This shows how to remove the sensor. I'd get a garage to do the job. Don't leave the keys in the ignition.
