C63 (weistec supercharged)
During the Supercharger install I added a Weistec Oil/Catch can just as a precautionary measure and after reading reviews on the American websites I thought it couldn’t hurt.
We removed it yesterday (while I was at MSL) and we were all surprised to find probably 20-25mm of oil/condensation in it…..this would have all went into the intake manifold had it not been fitted!!!!!
These “catch cans” can be fitted without the supercharger and I would advise any one with a M156 engine to have one of these fitted.
Even Acid and his guys were surprised at the amount of oil/condensation it had caught after only being installed for 2000 miles.

You should see if acid can do a group buy on the catch can.

Acid showed me the long tube headers.....I refused to physically touch them as just looking at them had my hand heading towards my wallet. If I had touched them they would have been fitted that day ha ha.

Can't wait to get them fitted!!! :) ear defenders might be required inside the car! lol did they look ok? a picture only tells part of the story

They looked awesome.......pure porn!!!

+1 on the catch cans, a must for any blown engine IMO due to the greatly increased crankcase pressures under boost.

I had one fitted on my modded BM 335i, the shocking amount of thick black stinking gunge and water/oil/fuel mix stuff it collected would all have just be sucked back in through the intake / 1 turbo / intercooler - yuck.

On a serious note , it was shocking to see how much trapment , group by may be a good one Acid :thumb:

When we turbo Honda engines we always install a breather, depending on how much boost is run (turbo size dependent) a breather is installed off the cam cover behind a baffle and maybe 1 off the block. Really don't want all those nasty hydrocarbons and crank case vapors being ingested back into the engine.
There are other good reasons to have one installed.

The american owners of C63s fit them without the supercharger and there are a few posts showing how much oil gets sucked into the intake on purely stock cars. Bit of a design floor by Mb...anyway glad I fitted it and at a reasonable price

Right is it a time for a group buy??

It's not a design flaw it is done for a good reason. Oil and fuel vapour are not allowed to vent to atmosphere and also I am pretty sure that there are regulations where cars are not allowed to have waste containers that have to be emptied. I'm sure it's just MB following the rules! :)

Pretty much all modern marques are built to recirculate crankcase pressure, one of my old cars had mechanical variable valves in the inlet manifold to manage the torque delivery, the valve mechanism used to seize from ingesting the mix of oil and fuel vapor and burn out the motors that controlled them.

Well think they can poke the regulations and I will just keep emptying the can and prevent it from re-circulating and potentially causing knock.
Apart from that it looks mint in the engine bay and I am pretty sure the guys at weistec know what they are doing.

Yes, they couldn't get it approved as a factory fitment, but it's not against any rules to fit one yourself, as long as you dispose of the waste oil at your local recycle centre of course ;)

My old 1981 MK1 XR2 had its crankcase breather piped into the air intake just before the carb, so it's certainly not a new thing.....

These were pocket rockets , rockers & gbox leaks but awesome little beasts!

Yup, (sorry off topic)

Black with orange decals.

I rebuilt the engine and box in mine at 140K, over bored to 1650, skimmed block to increase compression, re-balanced crank, Kent fast road cam (remember them?), new valves, spings, rockers, lightweight pistons, Aldon vacuumless race distributor (with points of course), race coil and "home made" ignition loom.

Janspeed tubular 4-1 manifold and PECO big bore exhaust (that would rust through in 3 months)

Oh joy, Lowered 50mm too.

Fastest XR2 in town - It would scream right to the 7krpm limit which was north of 120 in fourth!! (top gear then of course).

All built at home in my parents garage with a Haynes Manual, a modicum of skill and a few tools. No Laptop or software degree required :)

Back on topic.....
