We ask for no politics (as well as a few other subjects), as first and foremost this is a car forum. While there is an off topic forum to allow for other chat, it doesn't take long for some subjects to get heated or passionate. None of the staff are here to moderate such a debate, nor do we want to and unfortunately it can become the case somebody takes offence or one party wants the last word and won't let a subject drop etc.

So please respect that when posting future topics. If you want to comment on current affairs, there is probably a better platform for it.

The worrying bit is that the precedent is now set and it opens the doors for it to happen in other countries.

Expect a run on certain countries banks on Monday?

Moneysupermarket.com may be the place to get a big thread about this going?

So the best place for sensible and lively debate is another forum??

What happens when nobody dares start a new thread for fear of it being nuked and everyone starts posting elsewhere?

Can't understand why a website that makes money based on traffic would want to discourage people from posting stuff that gets read and replied to...

Maybe they think M-B owners as a class are too stupid to hold down an adult conversation...?

And the EU is only doing what every other organisation does, it's trying to grow at the expense of it's competition ie national governments

This place will revert back to being a fun car forum.

Nick, it is no different to the no football / no religion / no whatever policy. Forum segregation is what is needed not topic bans. Works on Pistonheads.

Please.

Crossed my mind too.

The thread is still open which is good. I think we are getting to narrow a field of subjects which could or may turn political (or be shoved that way by some members) If we talk about fuel prices - well its the tax which costs the most and different governments will levy that, always.

If its just going to be Mercedes cars and Mercedes only Id best get a Haynes manual!! Its the social aspect of the forum which is so good.

Edit.

Did not intend to fan any embers of political creep. Ill but out now.

Does it? Care to share the figures because I must be out of date, the tax is now below 50%, iirc.

Back on topic dies anyone know why this action has been taken against Cyprus as opposed to the Greeks, Spanish, Portugese and Irish whos economies are in a similar state?

Because their Govt chose to. A POLITICAL decision.

Hence why this will be locked if the forum policy is adhered to.
