Hi all
just registered on the forum

Have had a W210 320 CDi Avantgarde Estate for about 8 years (170,000 mile now), but am now looking for something a bit smaller and sportier - like an SLK

My budget will possibly strech to an AMG55 but I'm having trouble convincing the Mrs. She's OK with a 350, but it's proving hard to convince her the bigger engine is worth it

Any of you chaps think they're worth it over a 350, and if so why ?

I bought one two weeks ago; I'm really enjoying it. A few irritiations concerning iPod and upgraded blue tooth radio but the performance makes up for it. (This forum has lead me to Alfie of course who has been very helpful, I just need to find space in the diary to visit him).

I was pleasantly surprised by 32mpg on Friday when travelling from Wales to Bedfordshire and then to Worcestershire.

I'm considering buying one of those anti buffeting screens between the head rests though. Does anyone else have comments concerning these? Are they worth the investment?

The perspex wind deflector is expensive, but it totally transforms the car when the roof's down. Travelling at 80mph with the roof down is perfectly feasible with the deflector installed, and very uncomfortable without it (as you've probably found out already). They do turn up on eBay and also sometimes in the classifieds here so you may be able to save a few quid if you're happy with a used one.

The 350 is a fast car, sub 5.5 secs to 60 and 175+mph capability. The 55 is quicker, but not a great deal so. It does sound faster, with the V8 noise.

The 350 requires 'routine servicing', which is reasonable, rather than the AMG regime which can be pricey.

The 350 is a very capable Mercedes car, the 55 the same but with the AMG additions.

Drive both, and see which you prefer. Just make sure you get airscarf, its a genius invention if you like the roof down in less than tropical conditions
