Ex pat's widebody coupe...

Recaros look the dogs but in all honesty for long cruising the 500E seats will be more comfortable.

That's what I thought too... The tracks are different between the coupe & sedan, so I had to unbolt the bases & swap them. The wiring was also slightly different, so that had to be figured out also. All functions work as they should now.

Still trying to decide if I want to put the recaro's I bought in the car or leave the 500e seats....

If you decide to sell those recaros, let me know please.

Original 500E seats look 'soft' in a car that looks as 'hard' as yours...those Recaros you have belong in the car imo....which is why i have always fitted Recaros in every 500e i owned. Hard cars need the right seating equipment

Was there never a facelift bootlid on the coupes ?

I would also definitely buy them recaro's if you decide to sell!

What? No chrome star on the steering wheel?
Presumably, some pretty athletic maneouvres are required to gain access to the back seats?
Still lovely!

The airbag with the chrome star was only available on the 2000 C class, also the airbag won't fit steering wheels older than 1998, so you would have to swap the wheel/airbag combo.

No facelift trunk for the coupe or cab, only the sedan received it.

Ah, yes that would explain why you had issues, I forgot you had a coupe!! The coupe has a manual tilt release on the seat, the 500e seats don't have this option, so how do you access the rear seats? Do you just move the seat forward and tilt it using the electronic seat controls? Seems like a pain to do that all the time

Nick

You must install the Recaros....
The coupe is screaming for them !!!! :bannana:

When are you installing the TT?

Looks great..:thumb:

Yes the Recaros should be fitted,

Lovely car, looks awesome! The interior looks spotless too, its brilliant but like others have said, to have the recaro's in them is a MUST! If you do go ahead with that and end up selling the original seats, PM me and let me know as im very much interested :)

By the way, what exhaust/backbox system are you using and what kind of sound does it give?

Thanks,
Nik

Thanks to all for the compliments & opinions on the recaro's. I had originally purchased the seats specifically for the coupe, though I have a couple of other cars that I could put these in - including a 1985 M635csi (which is only let down by a couple of deep cracks in the driver seat). I also like the feel of the 500e seats - which is another reason for the doubt...

That said, the recaro's will not be for sale.

Ed - been enjoying just driving the car (finally), so the tt has been but on the back burner for a while. I may have it trailered to Chicago this winter, but I also have some serious modifications planned for the Porsche, so I may not get the time. The good thing is that I have the tt kit, ready to go when I am.

How is yours coming along??

Nik - thanks.

The exhaust in an Eisenmann system. I believe that I was lucky enough to find the last one available (new) in the US, though I would imagine that they are still on some shelves in Europe. It give the car a deep, throaty growl & definitely transformed the driving experience!!

Not as much of a pain as you may think - perhaps an additional 10 seconds... It's no sacrifice given the fact that I never use the rear seats in this car anyway.

There were chrome star'd airbags on the w140's, so no need to change steering wheel.

cheers

Is there a part number or a model number for your backbox system? Im interested to see whats available.

Just few days ago one got sold on ebay,It went over 300 euros. It was for a four cylinder though, otherwise you know.By the was it was brabus style

Congratulations, that's one fine looking CE. Very very nice. I'm also following RBYCC's thread with interest...

Fantastic looking coupe! I agree with others that the Recaros are a perfect match for the car. Good luck with the TT install when you decide to start that.

When I have some time (and can stomach going through the receipts...), I'll see if I can find a part number... I'm sure that if you visit Eisenmann's website, they still have it listed also.

Thanks again for the positive comments - it is very nice to know that what I have done is appreciated by my peers.
