Hi

Is this is an example of over engineering???? There are little wire ropes that secure the exhaust mounting bracket should the weld fail????

Anyone have any other ideas as to why these wire ropes are there?? Perhaps it is to secure the fuel tank in the event of a rear shunt???
210 does not have them.

Hi

The other end is attached to the fuel tank support, a U channel that runs across the rear of the tank.

Hi

Can anyone explainwhy you earth a fuel tank that is already bolted to the body???

Confused:confused:

:D:D

So the newer wiring regs around the time of the 210 Estate build meant it wasnt required on them???

Is the tank mounted through rubber insulators and hence not earthed by the bolts?

This is a very interesting question. I *suspect* that items 47 and 50 on each side are designed to come away from the body member in the event of an accident, and the straps then catch the tank and cross bar. This would decouple the tank from the body, making a gross leak from the tank less likely than if the tank were crushed along with the body.

The area where the 6th and 7th seats are mounted is, alas, crumple zone.

There's no need to earth via the bolts, as there will be an earth wire to the tank sender unit.
