Anther one for the list.

Even after a very short careful drive. I'm taking 200ydd or so when I turn off the car the exhaust crackles and pops away like you have been on the RAC Rally. You can hear it well away from the car.

Any ideas?

How short a drive? Did you say 200 yards?

Is the tick over / idle speed higher than usual?

Do the engine fans run on after the engine has been turned off?

Does your car have a diesel particulate filter (DPF)?

Yes any sort of distance. From hot or from stone cold.

It's a 2010 S350 cdi so I'm guessing it does have a dpf.

Can't hear any engine fans and idle is bleow 1k

Here is a vid I just took.

Drove probably 1 mile at most. Stopped at 3 red lights and never above 2000 rpm. Max speed hit 35mph.

There's definitely something not right there.

Does the engine feel excessively hot? Have you popped the bonnet to get a feel for how hot it actually is?

Does the car have the ability to read the oil temperature in one of the menus? If so how hot is the oil?

Sounds like a heat shield around the exhaust contracting so it may be in direct contact where it shouldn’t be. I would try an exhaust place to have a look underneath. Might just be one of the many shields are loose and have dropped onto the exhaust.
