There is a temperature sensor bolted into the exhaust manifold.
That can go faulty.
I don't know if your ODB reader will show the actual values of the sensor in real time but if it does that should identify if that is the problem.

Had the same message on my (similar) code reader whilst trying to diagnose an EML on my Porsche , the Porker has around eight sensors on the exhaust so replacing them one at a time (at £200) and hoping for the best was not an option.

Got the RAC out and they scanned the codes and we could look at the dynamic sensor values and the one before the DPF was showing it was 1000 degrees on a cold engine so that was the one that was replaced which solved the EML light.

So it maybe worth while giving your breakdown services a call or failing that get the codes read properly at an Indy or by someone with a more specialised reader.

Any idea where the senor located is it middle of the car or at the end?

As I said above, it is bolted into the exhaust manifold.

I suggest that you do more investigation before you start replacing parts though.

What else should i look for, S this error code coming on the digonistic.

I’m sure I had this fault on my E320cdi, which was a heated O2 sensor , it was on The exhaust system level with the front edge of the gearbox sump .
Replaced with a Bosch sensor £75 ish

So that was including or excluding the labour, as when u rav the car, rpm 2.5 upwards it break the power and then goes to lump mode and when i take foot off gas, strange noise come from the engine.

That was me doing it :)

I would look at the values reported on the ODB device. I have an iCarSoft i980 and it will show the actual values for the various sensors.
My car has a different engine to yours but the sensor that was showing high values was "Temp Sensor upstream of the Turbo" and that can only be in the exhaust manifold.
The values on my car were over 250degC when the car was cold and the engine was not running.
The i980 is an OBD reader specifically for MBs (it will read the values for any car but has more information on MBs).
I don't know if your OBD reader will have the same functionality.
You could try clearing the codes and see if they return.

I checked the same sensor values on my other car with the same engine and the values shown when the car was not running and cold was the same as the coolant temp -- perfect.

I bought a MB sensor -- it was about €140 incl VAT -- not a vast difference in price to the online non-MB ones and was available over the counter. I fitted it myself.

I went to a garage and they did a digonistic and come as DPF is full, they said need to clean dpf.

You need to stop going to any garage to sort your W221 a good indy will work out far cheaper than any old garage, the reason members keep saying get the codes read and do not buy anything before you do that is because every week we get members try the it has to be cheaper to change this or that, and then when it cures nothing get upset,my indy saved me hundreds of pounds over the years.

Was that an MB specialist with Star diagnostics ?
What did they say about the turbo/actuator fault code ?
They didnt said anything about other codes.DPF was throwing back as when you rev the engine sound was coming from the engine. Sensor code didnt come when he did digonistic

Everyone is suggesting the best way to solve your problem is to get it to an Indi with Star to be sure you know what is wrong before you start paying for parts . You seem determined not to take that advice so I am now anticipating a long thread and an expensive one as your local garage works its way through their parts catalogue

Hi .

I have 2 digonistic reports. First is AA breakdownand second is Garage.

Please advise..

Both are saying that the exhaust temp sensor is showing a value that is too high.
They seem to be pointing to different sensors though.
I suggest that you still need to see the actual values of the sensors.

For that i need digonistic? Another quick one, i have changed acceleration sensor, do i need programming on that? Thx

The iCarsoft i980 OBD reader (and other brands ) allow you to look at the actual values for the various sensors. That will show which of the sensors is giving the unusual numbers.
I don't know if the OBD reader you have will show that level of detail.

Can't help you with the throttle sensor.

Hi. Its not throttle sensor, its body acceleration sensor.
