On returning to my car I discovered the idiot that had parked alongside me had damaged the paintwork - from being careless in opening their passenger door.

The 1cm wide gash was sufficient to penetrate to the bare metal. It wasn't something that could be remedied with a paint stick.

The cost in putting it right with Mercedes' nominated agent was £300.

This all the more annoying since my car has only recently undergone £7,500 of re-buiding work since my wife was involved in an RTA some five months ago.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune,i'm(as i'm sure you are)always very careful when parking(especially supermarkets/public car parks etc),have you tried getting a quote from one of the companys that specialise in small damage repairs(i.e.dentman etc)?

All paint jobs are expensive nowadays due to the complex paint that is used now , to blend them into the existing paint is nigh on impossible , which means a whole panel has to be sprayed . if the scratches are light there are coloured polishes that make them almost disappear.

Is it just me?....

If I discover a near empty car park I'll often park far away from anyone else - only to discover on my return that someone else has parked next to my car (and we're the only two cars parked there).

It's as though the other car's owner thinks that there's safety in numbers - or do they like the idea of being parked next to a Mercedes?

Nope. I park away from oher cars as far as possible. No where near two door cars and if there are kids seats in the back I treat it like the plague.

And still I get some twonk parking right next to mine. I have a theory.
Ah nice clean Merc. He wont "door" me as he departs, so I shove it next to that.

Dear Lord, Give me Strength.

I get the same thing, it's bizarre!!
:wallbash:

Yep-me too..............no more supermarket parking for me,strictly home delivery from now on:D
