Hey everyone

Its me again asking the most annoying questions and seeking advice 😁

Before I bite the bullet in December and get an AMG (wether its a C63 or E63 new on lease from Mercedes or 5 years old online) I have a question to everyone that's sold an AMG before.
Does the car in general take sometime to resell as its more for a specific type of audience or do you find no different from selling your average diesel car.

I know it also depends on a lot of factors of the car like its condition and service history but lets say all is good!. I remember a friend of mine used to get phone calls when he was selling his F10 M5 asking "how much MPG does the car get" what a cheek ! 😂

Both are a niche market but a used C63 will probably attract a different clientele to a E63..

Both a high performance relatively complex cars so any private purchases will be wary...especially at the prices north of £20k. As you say, history and Provence are all.

That said, Everything sells at the right price...no idea what that would be given the ongoing economic gloom and job insecurities.

You will always get the “can you offer finance” or “what warranty do you give”....
 
Every “fast” petrolhead car I’ve sold - bar one - has been to decisive people, they ring, ask the pertinent questions like tyre condition, what service intervals has it been serviced, general condition of bodywork and interior then either negotiate on the phone if they’re far way or do it in person if they’re nearer. They then turn up, confirm everything I’ve said then tear off into the sunset.

On balance, those that ask 50 million questions are a complete waste of time to deal with, I’d say at least 75-90% of them vanish into thin air after sending them 500 videos and phots.

I would second the above statement. If I had known the problems I was going to get, I would never have sold to the buyer concerned. My problems started after the car (an E55K) was sold. Put me off selling privately ever again.

To answer the OP's question, so many variables when selling any car, but an AMG is a niche market. I'd say most people buying one know what they are about, and research properly beforehand. If the car is in good order, and priced fairly, I don't see why it should take no longer than any other car to sell.

There’s been buyers I’ve actually kept in touch with they were such a pleasure to deal with, just genuine folk who knew that a car with 100k miles will not be “brand new” as I’ve had others in the past expect.

I’ve had people make offers based on effectively making the car new again and reduced that offer to suit - car forums being the worse!
 
Regards selling on, it depends on when you plan in doing so. If it’s in 5 years time and the car would be worth sub-£10k then I don’t see much issue selling privately.

But personally I’d not be so keen selling a £20-30k+ car from home. Too much hassle/risk. Better off selling for sensible money to a specialist dealer IMHO - they’ll generally pay top book for mint cars and are in a better position to find the right sort of buyer (and can offer finance, warranty, part exchange etc too)

Risk vs. Reward.

The sort of person willing to spend that kind of money privately would typically be a bit of a risk taker and after a bargain - you might not get any better offers than selling to a dealer anyway.

Just my own thoughts and experiences.

My experience of selling a 4-year old E63 privately in the £25-30k price bracket was that it attracted a couple of clown traders who thought they could get it for nowt, and a couple of dreamers.

Non-Mercedes dealers would only offer silly money as part-ex, even against relatively expensive cars. Frankly, they were scared of buying it and would just have traded it out.

The best price was offered by a Mercedes-Benz main dealer who subsequently retailed it at £32k. The clown traders were offering £23 - £24k.
