Letter from MB today inviting us to extend the warranty on our E Cab 250CDi
Car is registered April 2013 and has 20k miles
They are offering 1 year extension to the Tier 1 warranty at a cost of £667.70 with 0 excess, £624.80 with £100 excess or £537.90 with £250 excess.

In the last year the only time I've called them is to ask about a window rattle on the offside only to be told rattles & squeaks are not covered.

Opinions please - is the warranty worth the money they are asking?:dk:

P.s. There is a good indie within 2 or 3 miles.
Additional p.s. - take a look at the Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet the indie has for sale:eek:

Pay the money into a savings account with an overdraft facility. If nothing goes wrong you have the money. I did this in late 80s and came out on top, money in the bank

I would pay for the warranty which seems quite reasonable to me.

It would not need much to go wrong to swallow up the £667.70 or indeed any of the options given.

I assume the amount includes parts and labour?

It would be a peace of mind thing for me.

Others will feel differently of course.

I thought about an extended warranty on my CLK which I just changed after 8 years. Apart from a broken spring ,tyres and servicing I would have wasted my money on a warranty. Mercedes try and get out of doing things if they can. My corroded exhaust bracket was not covered by the warranty , sale of goods act and court action got them moving.. I also used independent garage to service it .

I have been paying for an extended warranty with MB (tier 1) coming up for 3 years now pay monthly with a £100 excess had a glowplug module replace (don't know on that cost ) and am waiting for a injector to be replace that cost was £750. If you start one and don't claim you can get your money back. However when my car reaches 100K (1k) to go it wont cover wear and tear so am trying to find out what MB class as wear and tear

Odd... I've been looking for extended MB warranty but couldn't find it on the Mercedes site. Thought they didn't do it. Is there a link?

I was considering a Mercedes one as there are so much electronics packed in the car.

I took out an extra 4 years comprehensive warranty on a Toyota (which was an exclusion warranty, i.e. items not on the list were covered, rather than an inclusion warranty where items have to be in the list to be included). The claims cost worked out roughly the same as if paid Toyota independently I guess. But would be cheaper if going to an independent mechanic using non Toyota parts.

Generally the warranty price factors in the worst scenario, which of course generally doesn't play out, otherwise the warranty company won't make any money.

I'd agree with initial responses, self insure as odds as in your(and insurers) favour! Bank the money each year and use with an indie if any problem, if bot used them goes towards next one or nice treat!
Cheers, Tony

Thanks

The policy document is an inclusive list, so the items not listed are not included

4.2.2 What is not covered?
Any item not listed is not covered.

So if your intermittent wipers stop being intermittent, the electric seats pack in, electric folding mirrors stop folding, electric window switch stops working - it's not covered as far as I can see.

So in that respect is less value to me. I personally wouldn't go for it unless it was more inclusive. As some others have mentioned I'd bank the cash.

/EDIT.... sorry my bad... Tier 1 is more comprehensive than Tier 2

Have you checked out Warrany Direct?

They were great when I had my Merc. Paid out promptly.

I received the Mercedes warranty letter last Saturday and called them up straight away. I've purchased tier 1 with no excess for the same price you quoted. My car is the same as yours an E250 cabriolet.

I thought that if one thing goes wrong it'll probably be the price of the warranty. My main concern was the roof going wrong. They assured me that the roof mechanism was fully covered and that the warranty was the same as when the car was new.

My car was in with Mercedes this week for warranty work, squeaky drivers seat, rattling trim around windscreen and I asked for them to confirm the roof was covered. They confirmed so I'm happy for another year.

My rule of thumb would be if you have had no problems with the car for the first 3 years then chances are you won't in the next year.
Plus, if you can't trust a 20,000 mile, 3 year old car not to have anything go majorly wrong, then you bought the wrong car.

Just my 2 cents fwiw.

hmmm. they will not cover wind noise/rattling windows on the initial tier 1 warranty so i'm not avtrusterbof their product

I'm hoping that I won't have a problem with the noise/rattling windows now it's sorted. My manufacturer warranty runs out on the 5th December, so that warranty sorted the issues.
