AMG 63
Hi
I am purchasing an AMG 63 but do not have a garage to store it in. I wanted to get a great car cover (breathable, UV resistant etc etc) but I don’t know which ones are the best makes. Can you suggest any tried and tested covers? Many thanks

Is your car on or off road?
Could you build a car canopy or install a carcoon?

The problem with exterior car covers is that they get dusty on the inside and then when it is a windy day causes micro scratches in your paint (maybe ceramic coating would help) also condensation issues in some covers

Personally I would have the car detailed and then PPF'd, ceramic coated, then leave it out in the elements

kc
ps.Photos when you have collected it ;)

If the cover is for the summer use you will need a breathable car cover .For winter use it must be a none breathable and fully water proof . I use the Monsoon car cover fully waterproof none breathable for the winter only .But what ever cover you buy you need to cover the car over first with sheets first so the paint is protected unless its fleece lined ...First i cover the car in thermal sheets and tie them on to the handles, and then put the cover on .I think you will be uesing your car from tiome to time, so you need a breathable for the summer . This will not be good enough for winter use .Also make sure there are pockets in the sides of the cover that will take the wing mirrors ,,or the cover area below the mirror will be liffted up exposing the bottom of the car . Also the monsoon as breather flaps to let air circulate under the cover . Main problem with covers in the winter is the wind ,,so it will need pleanty of ties under the car to secure it . Used the one i have for 6 years now .

It will be absolutely fine outside. Protect the paint with a good quality sealant and get on with enjoying the car 👍🏻

I used a car cover and it was horrible for the paintwork. Luckily the car was due to be restored and it wasn't really and issue but it put me off ever using one again. It doesn't matter how good of a fit there will always be some movement. When it's windy it will move the cover around over the car and rub on the paint. This is made worse if there is any dirt on the car or gets transferred to the cover over time. Also even breathable covers hold some moisture. I think a car would fair better left open to the eliments. It will get rained on and what ever else but then dried too. I think more damage is done by driving with things like road salt a d stone chips not just parked up, especially with modern paints and metal protection.

Forget the cover and just keep it well maintained and clean is the best bet imo.

I just bought a cheap canopy from Amazon, works well

I’ve got a pop up shelter from Gala tents. It’s been great.
Pop Up Shelter with Sides 3m x 4m Gala Tent Pro 40

I leave it out all year and so far it’s been fine. It’s currently offering shelter for the pen I built for a rescued Tortoise! You can add sides if you want but I haven’t. Keeps the worst of the muck off, you can lower it so it’s just above the roof line.

As already mentioned I wouldn't bother with a car cover I would get it ceramic coated and leave outside unless you have room for a shelter of some sort

If you plan to use the car a lot, don't bother with a cover as you will only end up scratching the paintwork with the constant on/off & the wind causing it to rub against the paintwork

I’m looking for a cover too. I used one with my SLK and it kept the leaves, dust, bird dirt etc off as otherwise you wash the car and in a week it’s dirty again.I put a cotton sheet underneath and it was fine but it did leak in very wet weather. That was a Cover Zone Storm Force with mirror pockets. They all look a bit baggy.
I have seen the videos by Specialised and they have an impressive UK factory. Also Classic Additions had a stall at Goodwood.
Its probably a good idea to leave the cover off for periods and also clean and dry the cover twice a year.

They aren’t as simple as they look. If you’re not intending to the use the car for long periods - the classic “garage queen,” they can be fine. Take it off once a week and you’ll get into trouble.

It starts off well, you keep the car, and the cover, clean and dry, but before you know it, you’ll be leaving the cover dusty somewhere, and covering the car when it’s moist or dirty and then the trouble starts.

So, Covercraft and “classic additions” are great if the car is just being used once or twice a month, but if it’s more often, the smarter solution is a proper detailing with protective coatings.

Spider 10 no mater what polish you use on the car, you wont stop water getting in to the inside of doors and the bonet and trunk to sit there week on end untill the car moves .

These have good reviews from what I've seen (not from personal experience) :)

I used a Covercraft Noah on my SL when that lived outdoors, and it was fine. A fully tailored one isn't cheap (Covercraft even do different versions for the SL's original rectangular and later oval door mirrors), but avoids flapping about in the wind (which as mentioned can cause scratches/scuffs to the paintwork). A breathable cover is essential to avoid damp inside. BUT ... I wouldn't use a cover on a daily driver, or anything close to one. If the car is dirty then the cover gets dirty too and these are big & bulky items - not easy to wash & dry.

Thats the company that made my Monsoon fully fitted car cover . Most people go wrong because they buy covers that are waterproof and breathable .. no good in the winter, because the covers must be 100% fully waterproof ...
