mods feel free to delete this if inappropriate.

I have been given a piece of hugely enlightening informative information from a source that cannot be 100% trusted so I need to check it out for definite before taking the correct course of action (which will be above board and legal!)
I dont use FB, I detest it. If I set up a profile now it would be a huge tip off to the offending party, and the information gatherer. Is there a way to get access to someone's friends list if they "only share certain info"? That is how I can trace said offender and hopefully offending (or not) evidence. I only have a first name and a visual recognition, no surname otherwise I could search for them myself.....
It's fairly serious, but nothing illegal (thankfully).

    All ideas welcome.

When you click the person's friends list that you want to look at, their friends list may be visible, in which case, you click on the word "Friends" and can search their friends list.

If this friends list is not visible at this stage, you wont be able to see their friends list without adding them as a friend, and then you will be able to do the above.

    Hope this helps.

    Yep, one of THOSE !!!
I suspect you'll need the co-operation of a 'facebook friend' if the account is private and then to make screengrabs of the stuff you need.

We know that! But it still doesn't give us closure.

    Was she confronted about it?
Was she disciplined/fired/taken outside and thrashed/burnt at the stake/etc?
    Or was she let off?

Come on - you can tell us... No need to be shy!

Actually, on a related note, I have a sort of colleague who always pleads poverty and is constantly whining about needing more money.

I phoned him yesterday on his moby and he didn't answer. But it rang in that continental style, not the usual UK ring tone...

Not so short of money then!

I'm not going to go into any detail, but suffice to say that the continental ring tone is very telling, and so is the lack of response to an email I sent him wanting an immediate update to a spreadsheet on his case work. Can't do that if you're abroad, say, at half term - with your kids...

Also, when he sees his missed call list he will know he's been rumbled.

    Perhaps he is on holiday....
    Perhaps his mobile was stolen
    Perhaps it's been cloned
Perhaps he didn't want to talk to you
Perhaps his wife took the kids abroad and borrowed his mobile....is it a company one?
Perhaps he was in an important meeting in a cafe in Paris.
    Perhaps ................. :D

Surely if your source is 100% trustworthy you can take it as a given the info is accurate & you therefore don't need to check it out.

John is the source on the offending parties friends list? as then you just create a ficticious friend and with their permission join your sources network for a peek.

I don't know how much help it'll be, but I have a second FB account with barely anything on it. If you just need a way to log in and search for people I'm happy to give you the login details so you can browse etc. Of course if the info you need is locked down to friends only it might be fruitless - but the option is there if you want it :)

(This account has no friends/messages etc on there, it was an older account I had and I lost the login details. Only managed to recover the login info after setting up and getting comfy in a new account!)

Can't you get the source to print a screen capture of the offending information from bacefook?

I had a situation where at one point an employee decided they weren't 100% happy (out of the blue) so decided to try and go down a tribunal route, needless to say others offered up information on them to allow me to say... smack them back in to line, some of the information was on FB so I said to the informants to print the details out I'll cover the costs and we'll keep it anonymous. Presented the information to my solicitors along with the other grievances/disciplinary materials I had for the said employee and they backed down almost immediately.

Transpired that someone had told them to make something up take it to tribunal and get a pay out for a "quick" buck. As it happened that didn't work so well and they handed in their resignation.

It's people like that who need putting down.
