So, after convincing myself I have the least equipped W202 ever produced, I see on the Parkers website that lots of the stuff bolted to mine was... optional.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon specs, facts & figures, Dimensions | Parkers
I know it says 1993 spec , but seems to cover 93 > 2001.
I am prepared (so as to self affirm my own conviction) to accept that when MB "Facelifted" the W202, lots of the things (ABS, Alarm, ESR, Aircon) were thrown in as standard. But steelies...?
My car rolls happily along being all German and silver on some steelies, but the thought that someone optioned them boggles the mind...
Who in their right mind would option steelies? Don't get me wrong, I sold my old car's ugly 5-spoke alloys and ditchfinders and replaced them with some steelies, because I wanted a better ride and wider tyre choice.
Was the same (better tyre choice / ride) a "thing" for W202 owners buying from the factory? Were the steelies listed actually additional to the wheels that were fitted, you know, as a spare set for snow tyres (we are talking RWD here)? That's all I can think of!
